Empathy, resilience, and the courage to ask difficult (reflective) questions. Listening effectively. Placing students at the center. Meeting your colleagues where they are in their learning and teaching journeys. #leadership#empathy#wellbeing
Looking forward to it 😇
.@ATESOLnsw An article I wrote for .@SBS to enlighten teachers why the use of home languages in the classroom is crucial, multilingualism should be encouraged, is now live: “Best of both worlds - how to teach English whilst supporting home languages” https://t.co/8dQ2m1V5NQ #aussieEd #ell #eal #ellchat #tesoloz
IF the expectation is to use the (Eng) units of work, THEN you (must) know our texts as this helps with selecting vocabulary to teach and WHY? And what about grammar? Well… vocab and grammar are NOT inseparable. Ever. #tesoloz#vocabed#writing
.@MSiokos ‘just under 50 teachers from (now) 20 schools 😇. “Using tier 2 and 3 vocabulary for purposeful writing” PL Day 2 w/ @jrossbridge Adapt, enhance (or NoT, and start from scratch) Units of work: be critical. How ‘explicit’ are the units in teaching writing?#tesoloz#vocab

Part of our literacy focus was vocabulary! Really enjoyed teaching this unit about natural disasters.. so many great books available that helps us understand the impact of these catastrophic events (and also what we can do to minimise it!)
Neuroscientist Reid Lyon offers 10 maxims about what we know about how children learn to read: https://t.co/vHRP1fGS6C. The research support for these claims is here: https://t.co/WIPSawT6HP (pdf)
Concord West PS have hosted a theatre company that built a yurt to perform a play about refugee children. The installation led to many unique learning opportunities for the students. It isn’t every day that you get to have a yurt in your hall!

I’m very biased towards EALD, as you know 😁 In my own ‘Utopia’, and this is acknowledging the current teacher shortage, our EALD colleagues would not be used as ‘casuals’ and the EALD programs continue to run and are supported in EVERY school every single day so that we’re able to support hundreds of EALD Ss, inc those from refugee b/grounds. Wearing my .@ATESOLNSW as current President, I’m also looking forward to upcoming meetings bet ATESOL Council members & @pruecar to discuss the National EALD Roadmap 😇 🙏🏼 #tesoloz #aussieEd
