Delivered remarks at UN informal plenary of the IGN process on the Security Council Reform. Reiterated Georgia's support for equitable geographical representation, expansion of both permanent and non-permanent membership across regions, and discussed measures to enhance the Security Council's effectiveness in upholding international peace and security including limitations on the use of veto. Highlighted the painful lessons on the abuse of veto by Russia during the 2008 Russia-Georgia War that prevented the SC to adequately address it.
At #UNGA debate on UNSC #veto use, underlined: importance of Res.76/262, co-sponsored by 🇬🇪; need 2 restrict veto use in core crimes’ cases or when perm. member is a party 2 conflict, per Art.27(3) of 🇺🇳Charter; that Russia exercised veto in 2008 in violation of Art.27 of Charter

- 🇬🇪’s strong, consistent support 4 global disarmament & non-proliferation regimes.
At UNGA 3rd Committee General Debate, stressed:

- need 2 protect victims of conflict, promote gender equality & tackle risks of digital technologies’ misuse
We welcome the #Gaza ceasefire as a hopeful milestone toward peace. President @realDonaldTrump’s decisive diplomacy, supported by the mediation of 🇶🇦 Qatar, 🇪🇬 Egypt, and 🇹🇷 Türkiye, has played a crucial role in reaching this agreement. The immediate release of hostages will pave the way for lasting peace, that remains our shared responsibility.
