🚨BREAKING Red List Update: migratory shorebird populations are plummeting globally ⚠️ 📉
16 species have been reclassified to higher threat categories, with potential causes including habitat loss and degradation, disturbance, hunting and climate change.
Travelling the world on migration routes called flyways, shorebirds are a familiar sight. Protecting shorebirds is vital for all of us. The places migratory birds stop and rest on their long journeys are important for millions of people.
CBD COP16 is the moment to galvanise action to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. 🤝
Nature loss can be reversed but extinctions cannot.❌

The Galala Bird Observatory in Egypt is to become a reality thanks to a record-breaking donation of $125,000 from Global Birdfair. 💵
The donation was announced today and marks a significant achievement for the 2024 "Creating Brighter Futures" project. 🌞
The Galala Bird Observatory, which is spearheaded by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment and BirdLife's Partner, Nature Conservation Egypt (NCE - @Nature_Egypt ), will play a crucial role in monitoring bird species that utilise the African-Eurasian Flyway.
This flyway is a key migratory route used by hundreds of thousands of raptors, and other soaring birds migrating from Africa to Europe every year. 🦅
Global Birdfair raises funds for conservation annually and donates funds to BirdLife International for a project chosen by Global Birdfair for that year.
Tim Appleton and Penny Robinson, founders and organisers of @GlobalBirdfair , would like to thank all those who helped raise this amazing sum. 🙏

@GreeneIndy@HWDT_org@KatieMonk21 You two are amazing. What a fabulous spot. Enjoy your last day to the max. Greetings from El Gouna, Egypt where I have followed everyday. Cooled me down a treat 😍
Introducing Global Birdfair’s flagship species! – the Egyptian Vulture 🤍
With a white body, black flight feathers and a striking yellow face and beak, the Egyptian Vultures can be found along the Central Asian and African Eurasian Flyways. 🪽
Populations extend from South Europe to North Africa and throughout Asia. Remarkably, Egyptian Vultures have been observed to use rocks to break open eggs, even showing preference for rocks of a certain shape! 🪨
Sadly, they are globally listed as Endangered and under threat from unintentional poisoning, collisions with powerlines, as well as direct persecution in some countries. ⚠️
