Devastating news reports and images are emerging following last night’s brutal attacks by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
A woman stands next to her mother’s body in the Sviatoshyno district of Kyiv, which suffered the heaviest damage during last night’s attack: “This is my mother… she was about to turn 85, but she wasn’t planning to die.”
A pregnant woman is being evacuated from a destroyed building in Kyiv.
Children were killed. Injured people remain in shock among the ruins of their homes.
Last night, Ukraine endured one of the largest and most prolonged combined attacks by the Russian Armed Forces. The main target was Kyiv.
According to preliminary data from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, 8 people were killed, over 70 were injured, and 31 people — including 5 children — remain hospitalized in the capital alone.
There are also casualties and destruction in the Kyiv region, as well as in the Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Donetsk regions, and Zaporizhzhia. Today’s attack follows a dramatic increase in casualties since the beginning of the year. In March alone, 53 women and 4 girls were killed, while 378 women and 29 girls were injured. Women are being killed as they try to maintain a sense of normalcy and contribute to the economy: 7 women and 2 men were killed on Wednesday when a Russian drone hit the bus that was taking them to work in a factory in the Dnipro region.
UN Women Ukraine condemns the ongoing terror attacks by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian cities and towns.
We join the Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine, Matthias Schmale @matzschmale, in calling for the immediate end to the senseless use of force against civilians.
Ukraine needs a lasting and just peace. Russia must be held accountable for its crimes.

Russia was behind hoax bomb threats against two polling places in Georgia this morning, the most significant development in what officials have described as an ongoing propaganda campaign by the Kremlin to undermine the credibility of today’s vote. https://t.co/xAcNBDb6FK
#MentalHealth Fact: Depressive and anxiety disorders are about 50% more common among women than men.
Women who have experienced intimate partner violence or sexual violence are particularly vulnerable to developing a mental health condition.

We strongly condemn the strike on Al Ahli Arab Hospital in #Gaza that killed and injured hundreds of civilians.
International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law must be respected and upheld; civilians & civilian infrastructure must be protected.

After revision of 1325 NAP amidst full scale invasion government, MPs, civil society + international partners discuss cooperation to support women’s leadership + meet their needs in conflict
@unwomenukraine
🇺🇦Ukrainian women-led civil society organizations were among the first to respond to the humanitarian crisis in #Ukraine. 🤝In partnership with @UN_Women, they continue to play a leading role, which is key for the post-war recovery. #HRC52
Happy #InternationalWomensDay!
If you haven’t already, today is the day to make a commitment to women everywhere to stand up for human rights and join the fight for an equal future. Where will you stand?
#GenerationEquality#IWD2023
More than 20 years after #UNSCR1325, women & girls still bear the brunt of conflict & are excluded from processes that shape peace.
We need radical change to fully leverage the Women, Peace, Security Agenda - now.
My remarks at UN Security Council:

📣⚡️The Women in Arts Award this year is to be! Women in Arts. The Resistance 2023 is a very special award. This year, activities in the military, volunteering, cultural or any other spheres that directly approach the victory of 🇺🇦Ukraine became an additional selection criterion.
When communities invest in #GenderEquality and women's empowerment, they also build a foundation for peace. 🕊
More gender-equal societies are more peaceful societies.
Listening firsthand to the stories of women & girls in #Ukraine has been both disheartening & encouraging. Seeing what they’re doing to support their country & lay the ground for peace & recovery is impressing. Supporting women’s orgs is clearly a very smart way to build peace
Today is the one-year mark of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
We stand in solidarity with the women & girls of Ukraine.
We remain in Ukraine, committed to ensure that women & girls' rights are protected at this darkest hour.
My statement:
https://t.co/sQR6dnntyu
The Ukrainian people, particularly women and girls, continue to pay a terrible price for Russia’s merciless violation of IHR & HR law and for all forms of violence that are targeting women
We salute women’s response & resilience

One year since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a “hidden front” of educators is fighting for the country’s future.
Ukrainian education advocate Olesya Bozhko explains in her blog: https://t.co/bTycKawjJL via @divochemedia
Today, like all days, is a reminder of the critical work of #Ukrainian 🇺🇦 women and youth peacebuilders. Join our team to help coordinate with and amplify the work of our Ukrainian partners!! DM with any qs and please share widely!
Women can’t work and have a Dignified position in the society in Afg. as it is against the self-defined /interpreted context of Taliban’s religion. But hundreds of them can queue outside bakeries to beg and that is fine.Closing women business leave them with no income.
Hypocrisy?
"As a survivor, I have transformed my pain into justice." Powerful words from @jbedoyalima, describing how she was not alone on her journey to justice, but accompanied by other survivors, all unique in their resilience. #PSVI#ForSurvivorsWithSurvivors
