Tillis: These people don't deserve restitution. Many of them deserve to be in prison. This is just stupid on stilts.
Reporter: Do you think you have colleagues that share the same concerns—
Tillis: They do and they need to speak up. This is beyond the pale. This is not good for my colleagues. There's not one positive thing that could be spun out of this between now and November. This is bad policy. It's bad timing, and it's bad politics
In 1998, the United States achieved its first federal budget surplus in 29 years, effectively ending a streak of deficits that had lasted since 1969.
This milestone was achieved under President Bill Clinton, following the passage of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, which resulted in a fiscal surplus of approximately $69 billion for that year.
There was a secret pipeline of information designed to raise prices on almost all the chicken, pork, and turkey you bought - for years.
We just shut it down:
May in the mountains is heavenly. Everything starts blooming from rhododendron to flame azaleas and mountain laurel.
Early mornings echo with the sound of birdsong coming in from exotic places.
And there’s nothing sweeter than the fresh garment of green on hillsides.
Despite a decade of broad and bipartisan support, Wilmington and the Cape Fear Region have almost completely failed to get any action taken on PFAS in their water supply.
Right now, today, the State of North Carolina still enforces no limit on how much toxic PFAS chemicals polluters can dump in the water. And this fact is even crazier than it sounds. Why?
Because Wilmington and New Hanover county has powerful representatives in the North Carolina state legislature. State Senator @MichaelLee4NC, who represents New Hanover County, is the Republican Majority Leader, and rumored to be jostling to succeed Phil Berger as Senate President Pro-Tem. In other words, Lee is already one of the most powerful politicians in Raleigh today - and could become even more so.
Representative Ted Davis, who also represents much of New Hanover, is a very senior member of the State House.
Yet neither men have supported, much less secured, any legal limits on PFAS whatsoever in their years in the state legislature.
The reason? Because the NC Chamber of Commerce opposes any such limits on polluters - and "The Chamber" is one of both men's biggest campaign contributors.
(By the way: under the Biden-Harris administration, the EPA introduced the very first legally enforceable limits on PFAS. But under the Trump administration, the EPA rolled back most of those limits in March of 2025, right after assuming power.)
Literally 30 years after I was last a high school baseball coach, Coach Bryan Tillman and I helped these guys at @eesmithhigh in #FayettevilleNC make it to the playoffs for the first time in 31 years. Only 2 seniors on this team, so the future is very bright for the Golden Bulls
This is a very well-done piece. It breaks down all the earmarks by county in the new state budget and shows who got what, and where. Great work.

One reason NC’s status as a great place to raise a family is in decline is because of Republican policies that are wrecking our traditional public schools and making it very hard for us to recruit and retain the excellent teachers our students deserve. #nced#ncpol
Since 2010:
Don't take our word for it. Just listen to @markrobinsonNC himself when he tells us exactly what he wants to do if he's elected Governor of North Carolina. #ncpol
"Many mainstream politicians who preside over a democracy’s collapse are not authoritarians committed to overthrowing the system. They are careerists who are simply trying to get ahead. They are less opposed to democracy than indifferent to it...

This may encapsulates life in North Carolina public schools in 2023. On the 1st day of traditional-calendar classes: lockdowns due to safety threats, students being dismissed early due to HVAC issues & bus driver shortages leading to students getting to campus late. #nced
@MrJFox_ NOTE: Jordan had a 4th and goal from the 3 and later on had a 4th & goal from the 7 early in the 2nd half. Both times they decided to go for it and not kick field goals. Both times they were stopped with ZERO points. They take the points on those easy kicks, they win. Weird.
