@MCCCANM Walking around Airventure one year I encountered a guy admiring an airplane. He told the owner, "I wish I could get one but my wife doesn't like planes." The owner replied, "My first wife didn't either." Priorities.
@MCCCANM@DohoGg It's just air speed (Air Data) and heading (Hdg Ref) subtracted from the ground speed and track (IRU). Basically just the E6-B wind calculation.
@boomers_ass Integrating various avionics I learned there're multiple air/gnd discretes available. The PSEU votes multiple sensor inputs to set the outputs. You use the output that is safest for that application. Gear override covers the worst case failure.
@EODHappyCaptain@bawsolutions Most people don't realize how much influence your supervisor and unit leaders have over the process. Some will justify almost anything for an award and others see everything as just doing your job, so no award necessary.
@MCCCANM The worst ones that affect us in FL are the spring cold fronts that create a squall line E-W thru the JAX FIR. Pretty much throttles everything into and out of FL. If it happens on a spring break Friday, you don't want to be in MCO waiting to depart.
@MCCCANM The reason for allowing only half the slides is due to the probability of a fire on one side preventing their use. Good example is CO Flt 603 at LAX in 1978.
@william_hintze@EODHappyCaptain It’s complicated and can be frustrating. If your rating is less than 50%, it’s not a lot. But for some it’s a big deal. It’s not for me. Everyone who deserves compensation should get it.
@MCCCANM If you want safe, think big. Lower the highway 35' and you would put the traffic below the runway level and lower the light poles to about ground level. You might even be able to reclaim the 224' displaced threshold.
@RogueSqdn@MCCCANM I had to go through O’Hare on my way to my parents’ for Christmas back in the ’70s. When I got to the main terminal all I saw was a sea of blue. Nothing but Airmen in dress blues. Chanute sent them home for Christmas. They loaded up a bunch of buses and dropped them at O’Hare.
@boomers_ass@PrincepsPinat The big difference between the 707 and 717 (-135) is the fuselage. The 707 has a wider cabin due to airline demand. The 720 was a highly modified 707 to accommodate shorter fields and shorter flights.
