Seeing whitening of lupin leaves is a great sign in our group! We use virus-induced gene silencing (aka #VIGS) to silence genes in lupin plants; genes we think may be involved in the production of lupin defence compounds. A thread ↓ 1/
So, there you have it. We combine a plant virus, a bacterium, and two plant species for VIGS to work. VIGS also works in many other plant species than lupin. If you are curious to learn more, this paper is good go-to source:
