"I never said I loved my wife, but I have always respected her. She is someone's daughter who trusted me and came into my life. That's my philosophy."

80% of all autoimmune disease patients are females.
Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimoto's... the disparity is massive.
But WHY is the female immune system so prone to attacking itself?
When someone you love offers a bid for connection, you say yes every time. When someone sends you an article, a video, a funny post, it’s a bid for connection. They are trying to connect with you. When someone shares details about their day, their life, their thoughts, or their feelings with you, that is a bid for connection. They want to connect with you on a deeper level. They are trying to pull you into their world. If you love them, you say yes every time. Yes, even if the article they send is not particularly interesting to you. Yes, even if it means listening to them ramble about a game you don’t care about and think is stupid. Yes yes yes. And let’s hope they always say yes to your bids, too.

If your parents are 65 and above, please listen.
They are not going to tell you they are running out of time. That is not how they were built. They will wave you off, say they are fine, tell you not to worry, because they spent a lifetime protecting you from hard truths and they are still doing it now.
But time is not asking their permission.
Look closely the next time you see them, really look. The hands that once seemed so capable, the voice that used to fill a room, the eyes that still light up the moment you walk in, because you walking in is still, after all these years, one of the best parts of their day.
You are so busy becoming while they are quietly diminishing, and both things are happening at the same time and nobody talks about it.
The repeated stories are not a malfunction. They are what mattered most to them, they are trying to pass something to you before they go, so receive it.
One day you will be mid-sentence and suddenly remember the exact way they laughed, and it will stop you cold, and you would trade almost anything to hear it one more time in real time, not just in memory.
That day is coming, you do not know when.
So call, not when you have time, because you do not have time, nobody does, but call anyway, visit anyway, sit in the quiet with them and let it mean something.
Give them your presence while they can still feel it, not later.
Now.
Asked my grandparents how they’ve been married for so long, and my grandma replied:
“My husband and I have a deal that whenever we fight or disagree about something, the first one who notices it’s getting heated needs to speak up and say, "hey just a reminder that we’re best friends"
For the last thirty years this has worked remarkably well. It really snaps us out of whatever escalating path we might’ve been on and reminds us how small the argument is compared to the big picture.”
Nobody tells you this: Intelligence is overrated. Intelligent people are more likely to overthink, overplan, and overanalyze. They create complexity rather than doing the boring thing that works. The people you admire have a violent bias for action. Courage beats intelligence.
If your father or mother is above 67, please pause and read this slowly.
At that age, life begins to feel different for them. The world moves faster, but their bodies move slower. The things they once did effortlessly now require effort. Their strength is not what it used to be, and even if they don’t say it, they feel it.
What they need now is not pressure. Not stress. Not arguments about money or past mistakes. They need stability. They need reassurance. They need to feel safe.
If they have savings, protect it. This is not the stage for risky investments or “let’s try this opportunity.” It is the stage for preservation. Capital safety matters more than high returns. Peace of mind matters more than profit.
If they depend on you financially, don’t see it as a burden. See it as a privilege. The same hands that once carried you are now weaker. The same voices that defended you now speak softer. Support them with dignity, not pity.
And beyond money, give them something deeper.
Call them without being in a hurry.
Sit with them without checking your phone every two minutes.
Let them repeat stories you’ve heard before. One day, you will wish to hear those stories again.
At 67 and above, what they truly fear is not death. It is loneliness. It is feeling forgotten.
Take care of their health. Help them organize their documents. Make sure they are not being financially manipulated. Protect them from stress. But most importantly, protect their heart.
Because one day, the chair they sit on will be empty.
And no amount of money will buy back one more conversation.
After a certain age, your parents slowly become your children.
They ask simple questions, repeat stories, and depend on your patience the way you once depended on theirs. Very few understand this role reversal. What looks like innocence or inconvenience is really time coming full circle. Don’t correct them harshly. Don’t rush them. Care for them the way they once protected you. This is not a burden. It is repayment, quietly wrapped as love.
@lanaflverde What some see as a flaw can also be a gift of uniqueness. Vitiligo shows that beauty wears many shades, and light and dark can live together in harmony. The skin may change, but its grace remains the same.
