Credit is due. Rising from a Selangor fan club member to FAM president is no small achievement especially as a non-royal. That said, there’s clearly more to the story. In FIFA, understanding how the money flows into the national associations is the real game. Yet he has been caught cheating and recently admitted that FAM’s books were not in order. Having gone from plain Encik to Tan Sri, it seems the fire and hunger that once drove him have dimmed.This latest damage-control piece from his bro changes nothing. It won’t erase the poor state of Malaysian football under his watch. Naturalising players is one thing, a couple of deserving talents here and there is understandable but fielding an entire starting XI of imported players is not the solution.
Showing up at the 2026 World Cup in a suit and jetting off to major American cities, right after openly admitting accounting irregularities, is not going to save him. What might still save some dignity for him and his family is having the courage to step down now, while he can still leave with a shred of face left.
