This is a very important op-ed by a highly influential figure in US policy circles. Please read it if you haven’t yet.
I personally witnessed how @GhoryaniEllias pulled off this crucial piece with just the right approach for US policymakers. Good job!
I was pleased to discuss the Afghanistan Freedom Movement’s vision with @GeneralKellogg in Washington D.C.
Afghanistan’s future must be shaped by Afghans themselves. Meaningful international engagement can help advance a credible, nationally represented alternative built on stability, accountability and economic opportunity. https://t.co/XE0jLTag0e
The United States will not tolerate the Taliban taking American citizens hostage. Period.
We will not be intimidated or coerced by a Taliban that cruelly uses Americans as bargaining chips in its pursuit of international legitimacy.

Abandoning wealth, abandoning life, and abandoning one’s head
on the path of constitutionalism is the first stage.
What happened in Herat today was a clear showdown between the people’s will and a regime that has long relied on violence, fear, and terror to survive.
Despite heavy Taliban military presence, the people of Herat took to the streets empty-handed to defend human dignity. The protest against the arrest of veiled women and mothers proved one thing: a demand rooted in the conscience of the people cannot be silenced by tanks, threats, or suppression.
Those who deprive women of education, narrow public space, and answer protests with violence should know repression is not the end of the story. History remembers who stood with dignity and who collaborated in its destruction.
The dignity of the people, the honor of women, and the right to education cannot be erased by force. Every day of oppression widens the gap between rulers and the ruled.
History….especially Herat’s history ….has painful lessons for those who ignore it.
Remember the Taliban bragging they were the pure, incorruptible alternative with no shady deals or corruption?
The mask is gone…
While apologists defend them for delivering projects and stability, they are the problem, not the solution. They now take victory laps and cut ribbons on roads, tunnels like Salang, highways, and dams that were already planned, funded, and in progress during the Republic era. These are not Taliban miracles but Republic-era projects they halted for years with attacks, then rebranded after taking power.
Far from fixing anything, they created the chaos: sabotaging infrastructure, terrorizing civilians, and running extortion rackets demanding protection money on the very roads they made deadly.
Today, it is the same playbook: systematic bribery disguised as gifts, diverting international aid, taxing NGOs, and shaking down businesses..all while banning half the population (women and girls) from education and work, crippling the economy they claim to be rebuilding.
The result: brain drain, collapsed growth, and a humanitarian crisis they will not fix without real governance. They did not bring order. They weaponized instability for power, and they are still doing it.

We will count every lash, remember every hand and hold everyone who hit, shot or disrespected our citizens. The Taliban regime will collapse, those who torture Afghans will have no where to go but face justice! Thanks to @HNajafizada and his team for this report.
Afghanistan only stabilizes when everyone is in the system: ethnic groups, civil society, and all people treated with respect. Exclusion is what broke it.
Geo Economic and Regional Integration: Afghanistans True Potential Unlocked
Afghanistans geographic location is a divine blessing a natural crossroads at the heart of Asia. Yet under the current conditions of isolation, it has been squandered by conflict, division, and missed opportunities.
Imagine if Afghanistan opens up free from the constraints of todays governance, embracing openness, stability, and smart regional partnerships.
A balanced geo economic policy would:
Integrate Afghanistan economically with the entire region, creating mutual dependence with neighbors that naturally builds lasting peace.
Transform the country into the premier trade and transit hub of Central and South Asia.
Unlock billions in investment through revived corridors: Trans Afghan Railway, TAPI gas pipeline, Lapis Lazuli Corridor, CASA 1000 power links, and modern Silk Road connections.
Deliver real prosperity jobs, infrastructure, education, mining, agriculture, and hope directly to the Afghan people who deserve it most.
The opportunities are enormous: Afghanistan could become the economic engine of the region, turning its central position from a curse of conflict into a blessing of shared growth.
The future is ours to shape. Let’s choose integration, openness, and progress over isolation.
In Herat, mourners at the funerals of the Shia civilians killed in the Injil district attack boldly chanted “Death to Terrorism” turning grief into open defiance despite Taliban restrictions.
Taliban officials are reportedly furious at the anti-terror slogans and may soon use their security forces to arrest the protest organizers.
