This is a searing and beautiful piece of writing. Gave me pause and a lot to think about today. Not sure if the author - an IPS officer is on X - but thank you for this https://t.co/gVmF9CRBS8
India must do better with palliative care. Doctors here regularly refuse pain-killers for fear of addiction, leaving patients who need pain-alleviation in the lurch. I've been refused pain-killers after very painful biopsy, at a well-regarded hospital.
Thank you @docranjana

Big cheer for @GhostsofBengal for her translation of Bibhutibhushan's spooky stories in 'Taranath Tantrik', & Jerry Pinto for his translation of Narayan Surve's powerful poetry in 'In That Mill, I Too Was Forged'.
Speaking to #TheIndianExpress, the younger woman, one of two women that were paraded naked and sexually assaulted in #Manipur, said: “The police were there with the mob which was attacking our village. The police picked us up from near home, and took us a little away from the village and left us on the road with the mob. We were given to them by police.”

@ThisIsPoesRaven @speakingtiger14 those are entirely different stories. The character of the Tantrik was created by bibhutibhushan, who wrote only the two initial stories (trans. in the vol). The rest are written by his son. Hoichoi uses those later stories.
ok so we think our house is haunted. not just think, actively believe. first was when a friend of ours clearly saw an old man wearing lungi and baniyan/baniyaan standing in the middle of the first floor room. they shut the door and ran like hell to our bedroom and told us (1/n)
Last year I read Taranath Tantrik published by @speakingtiger14 & was mesmerized by the stories. This year I got to meet the translator @GhostsofBengal at the International Kolkata Book Fair.
