I was very pleased to be able to kick off the negotiation today for Gibraltar. Today is an important day as the process of this negotiation is underway. I believe it will be possible to find a route to a treaty although I am also realistic enough to know that we could still fail.

Very happy to now start the process of negotiation for a Treaty between UK🇬🇧 and EU🇪🇺 in relation to Gibraltar🇬🇮 to be based on the New Years Eve Agreement between us and Spain🇪🇸. I am optimistic that with good faith and hard work can deliver fluidity and shared prosperity.

The EUCommission's draft mandate is a matter for them, but the mandate published today strays unhelpfully from the New Year's Eve Framework Agreement & cannot form the basis for the negotiation of an agreement of a UK treaty with the EU in relation to #Gibraltar.
