We're looking for a mature, independent graduate provenance intern for the 2024-25 academic year. This is part-time (1-2 days/week) paid internship ideal for Boston-area students. To learn more and to apply, follow the instructions on the MFA website. https://t.co/v0xDO2sulN
In the light of recent jobs advertised in the #museum sector, some thoughtful words here:
@MandHAdvisor It’s all about money…again https://t.co/8etyLPGzEs
Periodic reminder:
Before digitization, before access, before anything and everything comes cataloguing.
Usually no one appreciates the unglamorous, tedious work that goes on behind the scenes to make things accessible.
So: Fund basic archival processing!!!
When I see how rarely cultural orgs post online (for good reason, there's too much shit to do), I'd like to see an experiment where somebody employs a terminally online person who knows their topic who's allowed to focus on pure posting
Someone start a resume writing and recruiting business that gets recovering museum professionals 6 figure jobs reimagining their skills into other fields.
I promise yall it's not ghetto over here. We have money left over after checks and benefits. No terminal degree necessary!
Love this! I save most of my weird and wonderful for interviews and once and if I get a position. But due to a couple different jobs, I have a better understanding of puppets than I ever thought I would need or want. Love Puppets!
Q1. What weird and wonderful museum skill have you put on your CV?
Recruiters, what’s the best skill you’ve seen on a CV?
As always start your answer with A1 & include #MuseumHour
We'll be adding some of our committes' answer below too :D
I just got to participate in two of my absolute FAVORITE things to do as a museum pro - hang out in a gorgeous, empty gallery and get a tour of it with an educator who helped plan and develop its installation. #ITweetMuseums#DoesAnyoneElseStillTweetMuseums
Also! In the Rocks and Minerals galleries @amnh if you can reach it, you can touch it! Be careful! But if it’s not behind glass or stanchions and you can do it sawfly, touch the things!
