Harvard University – Radcliffe Campus Restoration & Waterproofing Project Gilrace Masonry Inc. completed comprehensive entryway restoration, structural sealing, and waterproofing improvements across multiple Radcliffe buildings at Harvard University. Scope of work included: •Full joint re-caulking at entryways, stair systems, and accessibility ramps •Concrete crack repair and joint sealing along pedestrian walkways and retaining walls •Brick repointing to restore historic masonry integrity and match original mortar profiles •Sidewalk and ramp rehabilitation with surface preparation and patching •Application of Conproco elastomeric deck coating system for long-term waterproofing and slip resistance •Detailed sealing at wall-to-slab transitions to eliminate water infiltration points This project required a high level of coordination to maintain safe building access while performing phased repairs in active campus environments. Water intrusion at door openings is one of the most common failure points in masonry buildings—especially in Boston. This unit had ongoing leaks at the slider due to failed waterproofing and no proper drainage system behind the brick façade. 👉 Once we opened it up, the issue was clear: •No effective door pan system •Water trapped with no way to exit •Deteriorated flashing + compromised substrate Our solution (done right the first time): •Removed existing slider and surrounding brickwork •Installed custom stainless steel door pan with end dams •Integrated through-wall flashing + GCP Perm-A-Barrier system •Rebuilt the assembly to ensure proper drainage and long-term performance 💧 Key detail: Those end dams aren’t optional—they’re what stop water from migrating laterally and getting back into the building.
