As I conclude my Japan visit today, had a fruitful winding-up interaction with Dr. Atsushi Sunami, President of Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) and senior members at SPF Headquarters.
We discussed key takeaways and a future roadmap for deeper engagement with Japan across various sectors.

My sincere thanks to SPF for facilitating multiple meetings with policymakers, academia, journalists and business leaders all of which were immensely productive.

In line with the vision of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and Japan’s leadership, we will continue to take forward the shared agenda through close collaboration with SPF and the Indian Embassy.

The police have registered a case regarding the death of a 19-year-old youth, identified as Gomchu Yekar, at the #NirjuliPoliceStation. Yekar died by #suicide on Thursday evening and had named former #ItanagarCapitalRegion Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom and Likwang Lowang, an Executive Engineer in the Rural Works Department, as being responsible for his death. Lowang also died by suicide a few hours later in Khonsa. Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt to arrest Potom based on the #FIR lodged by the family of the late Gomchu Yekar. The police have registered a case against him under Sections 108, 271, 272, and 3(5) of the #BharatiyaNyayaSanhita, which include provisions related to abetment of suicide.

Under the transformative Vibrant Village Programme, Arunachal Pradesh’s remotest villages are now connected to the development mainstream:

Phase I – 455 priority border villages across 11 districts are being transformed:

✅ 125 villages to receive 105 new roads (totaling 1,022 km)
✅ 156 villages to benefit from 187 development projects worth ₹104.99 Cr
✅ Over 6,000 streetlights and 50 mini/micro hydel projects to ensure sustainable energy

Phase II (from April 2025) – 122 additional villages (67 along the Indo-Myanmar border and 55 on the Indo-Bhutan border) will receive:
✅ All-weather roads
✅ 4G telecom & TV connectivity
✅ On-grid electrification

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has sanctioned ₹2,205 Cr to make this vision a reality.
