We could put out a coherent retelling of that encounter in which the young woman involved is understood as navigating male sexual expectations, power, socialisation, objectification, etc., and make the encounter sympathetic from her perspective but NO lets explain men.
BREAKING NEWS: I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many U.S. concerns. There will be NO COST to the United States! At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland, and the United States of America. Additionally, from now on, no U.S. adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval. For over 100 years, Presidents have known the strategic importance of Greenland, but NONE of them were able to do anything about it. I am proud to be the President that permanently and conclusively addressed this very important situation. This is an “Infinite Life” Agreement, there is no end! We are very honored and proud of what has just taken place, and everything agreed to today will be cherished by the American People. We will immediately begin the process of developing a large Military presence in the appropriate part of Greenland, of which there are many. We will work with the people of Greenland in its development and construction. This solution is a great one for the United States of America, Denmark, Greenland, and all of our Allies. We look forward to working with the wonderful people of Denmark and Greenland toward a magnificent future with respect to this large, and highly strategic, parcel of land. We will be very protective of it! This is a dream come true for the United States of America, one that is very important, historic, and special. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP
No, she’s 38 and looks 38.
Looking four years removed from being a minor isn’t the goal. Let’s allow grown women to be grown and sexy.
Adult women are SEXY.
@waweru The colonizer took fluid, overlapping identities and turned them into more rigid administrative and political categories, giving them new boundaries, meanings and consequences.
That is very different from saying that the identities themselves were invented by Europeans.
Kenya needs a new moral universe if it wants liberation. And I'm sorry, #Katiba2010 cannot give us that. The Katiba helped us tame the state, but we should be using that space to reconstruct a new moral universe on which we can build a new political economy. We are wasting so much time following politicians and bureaucrats to implement the Katiba properly. But the politicians are deliberately keeping us busy with their theatrics so that we don't have time to think and innovate.
One idea that has to go is that it is the role of "good" leaders or "relevant" education to "bring" development. We all have to build this country. If we go into 2027 telling politicians "show us what you can do for us," it won't matter if we ask for decent things like roads, hospitals, schools, etc. We will still be singing "wantam" even to Ruto's replacement.
The idea of leadership as bringing development came from the figure of the colonial district commissioner. The colonial DO, and now chief and county commissioner, are everything: marriage counselors, police, teachers, development partners, etc. Meaning that our economy doesn't work.
And the problem with that model of the all-knowing local government official was that they didn't connect the local economy to the national one. One DO will build a road, next DO won't complete it, and instead build latrines for all primary schools. And colonial DOs used to decide on "development" projects based on their fancies, not on the needs of the natives or projections into the future. In fact, after the WWII, colonial officers moved from "helping the natives" to fighting change and innovation in Africa. A legacy which our civil service does to this day.
We have remained colonized in our reserves, even if we now call them counties. One day we're praising pigs in one county, next day clean streets in another county, but if you ask any Kenyan, we don't understand that camel rearing in Marsabit, livestock keeping in Samburu, fishing in Homa Bay or farming in Taita must all be connected to each other. There has to be a coherent story we're telling about our economy that puts the people at the centre, not government officials and elected leaders.
The biggest problem of Kenya is that serikali ndiyo mama na baba. The state is still our source of capital, social legitimacy and mobility. As long as that remains, we'll be back to singing wantam after the 2027 elections to Kasongo's successor.
We should qll know by now that colonialism has evolved from controlling land to controlling aspiration.
Today the average African child can name European wars, quote American culture, chase foreign validation, yet barely explain the economic logic of their own country.
The scariest part is the disorientation disguised as education 😉
The constant pumping of music into every public space, every idle second of sport, every supermarket and café, speaks to an underlying sickness, a kind of cultural mental illness. As a society we are allergic to silence, terrified of spending even one second with our own thoughts
The purpose of a hobby is defeated when you center belonging/validation over activity. It's YOUR hobby. If the bigger barrier to trying it is the communities around it, then it is not the hobby you seek but access. Hike with sandals, if you must. It's your dream. Your fulfillment
By the way, this too, is a sign of poor leadership.
There's no country worth its professionals and taxes where a government agency would have the gall to tweet like this, let alone have it up for 5 hours and counting.
Usipate spiritual awakening uwache kazi if you’re not cushioned. Don’t be stupid, utaumia vibaya sana. Becoming aware of your spirit does not mean denying your physical existence. Balance in all things. Chop wood, carry water
Centuries ago the church convinced the peasants that their suffering in this world would be rewarded after death so they wouldn't rebel against the aristocracy & the cycle hasn't stopped since. This is what we are up against.
I can't talk about political personalities any more. In fact, I stopped some time back. What I would like to know is which civil servants sign the checks to pay these guys. Which civil servants organize the so called commission trips and meetings. Which government drivers drive these people around.
There are 1 million employees who form part of this parasitic state, who worship government jobs because they believe that the only way to earn a living is from working for government. And they believe that because they also block the economy outside of government employment from growing. They are the KRA who shut down businesses, they are kanjo who demolish vibandas, they are police who kill, diplomats and bureaucrats who sell us, our land and our food to foreign countries, they are the chiefs in our villages who spy on us and keep us under control.
Unless we start holding these 1 million people personally responsible for the mess in our country, shouting about political appointments will just be noise, because the political appointees know that government drivers will still pick them in the morning and government accountants will still deposit their pay in their bank accounts at the end of the month.
its not about noble savage trope. the locals feel like they are getting the short end of the stick both ways. when they move abroad, they begin from the bottom, fighting for work permits, joining army to get green cards etc dog fight all the way up. when foreigners move to africa, they begin from the top i.e., special permits for them, easily acquire properties and land coz of govt support and superior currencies etc. so the locals feel like they are getting played hapo. this is the problem
