@Renzo_Lanfranco@CurrentBiology Re resting state: no we didn’t do that, it’s a good idea, thank you :) I was also interested in doing a functional connectivity analysis during the listening task..planning to do that at some point!
@Renzo_Lanfranco@CurrentBiology seem affected by context effects. This result was also helpful for designing the fMRI: we were very careful in the wording of instructions for the spontaneous condition, which would always come first (before the voluntary condition, where we explicitly instructed to visualise)
A bit late to the party, but here's a thread about our new fMRI study preprint, in which we found that V1 is not sufficient for subjective imagery experience. https://t.co/febIePOL5S
@nadine_dijkstra @kerblooee so cool, I always wondered whether children's source&reality monitoring errors could be due to their stronger vividness/less control over their own imagery (ie more involuntary imagery!)
@kerblooee @WordWeaver_@Lucidly_Elias@nataliepeluso@VeniceLove5@itjohnstone True! But also I'm not sure whether there's a direct link, maybe it depends on the interaction with other things, e.g. emotional traits, and/or on the type/format of art (e.g. photo vs painting, abstract vs representational, surrealism vs realism, etc!)
@WordWeaver_@Lucidly_Elias @kerblooee @nataliepeluso@VeniceLove5@itjohnstone sorry just saw this! yay I've been thinking about the link imagery - aesthetic experience for a while but never directly investigated it (would love to) I agree that there might be some influence! there is some stuff out there but nothing about imagery extremes as far as I know
This spontaneous imagery rating was followed by ratings of voluntary imagery experience of the same sounds.
In a second scanning part, participants listened to all sounds again, but this time while voluntarily conjuring visual images of the sound content.
Taken together, these results thus show that, while V1 is not sufficient for the subjective experience of imagery, precuneus appears to play a key role in its presence.
