“We believe small actions can create big change.” 🌍✨
In the Global Scholars e-classroom, students are turning ideas into action. This message from a class in Astana is simple but powerful: small everyday choices can create meaningful change.

We asked alumni of the Global Scholars program to describe how they felt about the classroom teacher who had led them in international #virtualexchange. These eloquent students were *almost* at a loss for words. (Read the hearts!) ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ #respect#TeacherAppreciationWeek2026
A special thank you to @ColumbiaSIPA Professor Ester Fuchs for joining our inaugural Global Scholars Alumni Convening last week in Madrid and for her remarks inspiring young people to get INVOLVED in participatory design and urban planning! 🗣️🏙️🌳🌳🌳

Congratulations to Jermaine Dawson on his appointment as the new CEO of @BaltCitySchools! We have had the luck of partnering with Dr. Dawson in Birmingham & in Duval County, as he expanded global learning for thousands of lucky students. Thrilled for him and for Baltimore! ✨✨✨
Jermaine Dawson will be the next CEO of Baltimore City Schools.
Dawson spoke at a board meeting Monday morning about how excited he was to take the mantle from previous CEO Dr. Sonja Santelises, whose contract ends on June 30.
A native of Atlanta, Dawson currently serves as the deputy superintendent of Academic Services at The School District of Philadelphia, overseeing curriculum, instruction, student support services and special education/diverse learners.
Before taking over his current position in Philadelphia, Dawson served as Chief Academic Officer for Birmingham City Schools from 2020 to 2023, bringing the district out of the pandemic. During his time there, 67% of schools were removed from the federal failing schools list because of improvement.
He is also listed as one of the Top 100 Influencers in Education in the nation by District Administration, the most widely read media brand for K-12 educators.

In a world of divisions, consider what unites us. Tea, for instance. ☕☕☕ Here's a great conversation starter in the international e-classroom, from Global Scholars students in #Astana. #globalknowledge#foodcitiesfuture
Listening to chocolate in New Haven: “When we know how much work and how many steps our ordinary food goes through every day, we are more aware of what we are wasting” – great job, Global Scholars #foodcitiesfuture#globalknowledge

Our thanks to the team at Harvard’s @Digi_Thriving for leading a Global Cities staff brainstorm on #AI. How can we live our values as we harness new technology? It was eye-opening to discuss what feels “total fine” and what “crosses a line.” Great #PD. https://t.co/s9UeFpT3V9
Sure we’re a digital program, but we ❤️💙💚colored pens, origami, and an old-fashioned walk around the neighborhood. Great job with your community food guide, Global Scholars in Paris! #pbl#foodcitiesfuture
“If we don’t prepare them for what’s next, then really – what are we doing in school?” Nicola Labas, School Principal, San Diego CA. See how Global Scholars prepares graduates who can collaborate, brainstorm solutions, get involved. #civiclearningweek#globalcompetency
What does a Community Food Guide have to do with #culturalunderstanding?
✅ Observing culture in one’s own city
✅ Seeing connections between culture & food
✅ Presenting your city’s food culture to peers around the world!
Great job, Global Scholars in #Mumbai. #foodcitiesfuture
Global Scholars in #Kostanay, Kazakhstan shared a food map of their neighborhood with international peers. They noted food sources they saw and one that might be missing. Could there be a community garden in Kostanay’s future…? #foodcitiesfuture ⋆.ೃ࿔* :・🌱⋆.ೃ࿔* :・
