@Tom_Rowsell Noticed this in Calgary of all places in Canada. It’s normal for families to be sitting on the C Train (Overground train) with homeless literally smoking crack on the same carriage and people just put up with it as if it’s normal. You’d never see that even in London.
@Natehawke@scott_gambier Have you seen the price of trains going to the MetLife stadium in the US? US has worse rail infrastructure than the UK as well. As does Mexico and Canada, though I understand why Canada might want and deserves the opportunity to host. Don’t really understand Mexico though.
@vanhanenist@duertufs@posta_octavian middle of continental power politics, where wars, invasions, occupations, and military spending repeatedly disrupted development. Race and ingenuity matters, but stable conditions matter too. It’s much easier to create the conditions for factories, institution building…
@English_Jew Most Independent Plumbers make a lot more than the vast majority of white collar workers, Class distinctions are meaningless in 21st century Britain
@johners1973@ChampionshpTalk Nothing brings everyone together like winning a World Cup though. Would like to us win the Prem though, that would be something
@IbnKulthum A tax is applied regardless in Cairo. If you go to Maadi in Cairo it’s a bit more expensive but prices tend to be consistent, also a lot of people wear shorts in that area during the day. Only place in Cairo like that. Besides its history Egypt is a shithole.
@Alex_Niven Germany was the best team in 2014. Such a good team unit. I was more surprised they could only secure a victory against Argentina in extra time.
@duertufs@posta_octavian It’s not. Germany was a series of Principalities and states for years prior and subsequent to the British Agricultural and Industrial Revolution.
@duertufs@posta_octavian Germany didn’t even exist when Britain industrialised. France was stuck in feudalism mostly due to it not being an island nation it was never going to industrialise without Britain.
