Years ago we made an animated film which has been through a rollercoaster with Youtube. We've been demonetized twice now in claims that our film is a duplication/reused video. The film had over 14 million views before it all happened.

Any advice?

Here we go again. Just a few months ago we've been down this road, and now we've been demonetized once more with the claim that our original, hand made content is "reused".

What say you?

If the official reason they give you is a duplication, it means they don't view you as the copyright owner. It potentially means they won't respect your takedown notices.

Youtube has to respect a creator's copyrights. In our case, they don't

Try to contact them. Seek friends who are google employees. Send actual letters. SHOW UP at a google office.

Remember, if they don't respect your copyright, it means they won't help you take down people who copy you. This is illegal. Talk to a lawyer if you need to.

Our situation started early 2018 and we got our monetization back about a week ago, a few days after we had a big reddit post, and a moderately popular twitter post.

Neither seems to be why we were enabled though.. I have no idea.

It's likely a problem on Youtube's end.
It seems like they have a system that flags channels for duplication automatically, and at the same time they have harsh policies against such channels, and we fall between the cracks.

We didn't get to reapply a second time because the first one took them over 4 months to process, and they got back to us less than a month ago.

Our channel has only 1 video, and it's an original animation we created frame after frame, model after model. There's absolutely no way a duplication could happen. But it did I guess?

My suggestion is stop at nothing trying to get their attention. It's borderline illegal.

@Nox_Doom Honestly, I have no idea. But once I know more I'll tell u. The problem is that I haven't been approached by anyone. It just turned on, without us applying even.

It's hard to know how things will progress and if we'll get our old traffic back. But at least we got monetized again.

We learned that lots of others are buried in similar situations and wish we'd have more reach to help all of u out.

@TeamYouTube I'm talking about original content, and how to protect it from theft on your platform. We failed content ID because we're too small of a channel despite having a film with millions of views which is routinely being reuploaded without our permission.

We were just denied our request to utilize Content ID on our film.
Although we got our monetization back, how can we be certain that our film is protect on your platform considering what's happened?

We have no way of finding duplicate content. For all we know, there are hundreds of duplicates which have millions of views like the one we found already. What can we do?

We're not entirely sure how it happened since we weren't contacted by anyone, but our monetization is BACK.

Youtube remains way too hard to contact in cases like this.

A channel dedicated to stealing animated shorts. They remove credit rolls and change the name.

Our film gained over 12 million views on their illegal upload. We didn't see a dime. Meanwhile our channel is DEMONETIZED.
