They're standing with dozens of famous figures — many of them dead. A hand is raised above Paul's head — a symbol of death in multiple esoteric traditions. The album opens with: "Billy Shears" — the replacement's name, announced to the world in the first minutes of the first album after Paul's death.
"A Day in the Life" — the final track: "He blew his mind out in a car." Not metaphor. Literal. A man died in a car. The news was reported. Nobody noticed.
