@HowtoADHD@HealthyADHD Jess, I was only diagnosed 2 yrs ago so it's not a matter of "used to," but oh man, as usual, you've managed to provide the words to explain my experiences, even to myself.
@_hoeletariat_@toediackiller@MyaRashad@dropoutninja with the job title "developmental therapist" or (depending on child's age) early interventionist. All of these include some aspects of behaviour therapy, but not usually in the same way that ABA uses those strategies. 2/2
@_hoeletariat_@toediackiller@MyaRashad@dropoutninja Regular speech and language therapy and occupational therapy generally take a play based approach to learning, with the comfort of the children being kept in the forefront, and due regard for how the environment etc is affecting the child. Sometimes you'll also find people 1/2
@CalamariCtchKng@dropoutninja Applied Behavioural Analysis - an intensive, repetitive and highly controlled/controlling approach to skills development, using behavioural approaches. Lots of info online if you want to find out more.
@shrmpchips@JazzNScotch@dropoutninja who won't force or push your nephew when he's uncomfortable or has had enough for the day.
Hope that helps, and hope your sister is able to take in your feedback, or search out some info on her own.
@shrmpchips@JazzNScotch@dropoutninja developmental therapist) *not* affiliated with an
ABA program. You're looking for someone who will follow the child's lead and come alongside them to shape their play into skill development, and invite the child into play by engaging their curiosity, and 2/3
@slinkysharon@blkgirllostkeys Not literally quoted at me, but certainly implied by my grandfather, who lived with us for a while. And punctuality was a close second, which, whew boy! Did not make for a good relationship between he and I. Time blindness, amirite?
@FactualDetails@Brent10Perry@AP stimulation to get it!), and I believe also *reduces* risk of addictions (from self-medicating). And I'd guess if functioning improves, then mental health also improves (or if diagnosed earlier than some of us - risk is reduced in the first place) therefore reducing suicide rates
@FactualDetails@Brent10Perry@AP No link to statistics or articles, but can offer a couple of points I've specifically read about that might contribute to that difference - ADHD meds help with driving, reduce impulsive and risky behaviours (our brains want to have the same dopamine everyone else has but need 1/2
@JoVanEvery @Really_Richelle@CAwkward@blkgirllostkeys My aunt feels the same way as you - I was worried about accepting one of hers - I have cats and a dog who sleeps on the bed. She assured me her quilts were made to be used!
@Really_Richelle@CAwkward@blkgirllostkeys I'm so sorry. β€
My grandfather once told my mother he didn't want to give her money to buy me a birthday gift bc it would only get ruined in my messy room. My sister overheard and told me. 40 yrs ago, and it's still a knife to the heart.
@erin_in_time@Istezada@blkgirllostkeys Ha! Lived in my childhood home as an adult & kept sooo many things the way they were. Mom & Dad moved back in and I moved out, but am now back. And it makes me just a wee bit crazy that Mom has things in completely different places now vs before. Don't know why, but it does!
