Thanks to recent advances in diagnostics and medical innovation, multiple myeloma patients are living longer than ever before. #MultipleMyeloma is the second most commonly diagnosed blood cancer, after non-Hodgkin lymphoma, yet few people know much about this deadly disease!

The most common cause of death related to #MultipleMyeloma is infection, with pneumonia being the most common fatal infection. Other common causes of death are bleeding (from low platelet counts), complications of bone fractures, kidney failure, and blood clots in the lungs

Plasma cells help you fight infections by making antibodies that recognize and attack germs. Multiple myeloma causes cancer cells to accumulate in the bone marrow, it is not bone cancer

@jciikeja @jci_nigeria @samteajay @FemiDavis 5. A bone marrow biopsy (from his sternum - chest bone) done by a competent haematologist was all that was needed to confirm the diagnosis. But by this time, it was too late! He died at LUTH a few weeks later! One of the reasons I have dedicated my career to cancer prevention!
