I understand everyone's frustration about the Beta being only Horde and PvP after too but I do think it's a good choice because the majority of new players on any game these days gravitate towards co-op more than versus, especially if their only memories of versus are negative.

Apex’s matchmaking could be better, yes, but the main issue is that the playerbase lacks skill. running into 3 stacks isn’t why you’re not ranking up; the diamonds that should be in gold are the issue
