https://t.co/pWnKj8b9zv this MAME commit from smf finally brings Primal Rage 2 to working state in official MAME releases, so it will be working in the build at the end of this month. No more badly hacked up old ancient MAME versions needed.
you guys know how crashing into a wall using the burning ability makes kirby bounce backwards in almost every game except KDL3 and K64? well, I was doing some debugging and turns out KDL3 has code that does this but it goes unused lol
Left: Enabled code | Right: Original game
@MameHaze No idea. Even though I've been making these Arcade Archives-related posts, I don't actually own a PS4 or Switch so I can't test it out on there.
Blast Off came to Arcade Archives, so here's the only real piece of trivia I have on it:
On the title screen, holding 1P & 2P Start, 1P & 2P Button 1 + Button 2, and 1P & 2P Up will replace the copyright text with a secret message.
That's all I've got.
Shienryuu, the arcade/Saturn shmup from Warashi, has a hidden "Test program" menu.
It's got various debug functions that don't all work, but the ones that do are cool. "Scroll test" shows how the stage backgrounds move. "Magic hand" is a controllable spring thing.
Catching up on Arcade Archives releases. Here's a fresh article on The Final Round / Hard Puncher with debug functions, 2 previously unknown codes, removed high score easter eggs, details on regional differences, and a look at a slightly earlier revision.

RINGS OF SATURN: The demo disc for *Goiken Muyou: Anarchy in the Nippon*, the goofy 3D fighter, has a full copy of the game hidden behind its restrictions.
The code is from a month before the final. I patched out the limits so this prototype build can be explored!
More below…
RINGS OF SATURN: I found some new cheat codes for Taito's and Ving's *Gun Frontier*, 27 years later.
One made me laugh out loud: plug in a Virtua Gun and shoot the options screen. A stage select item appears!
Was it known that this game supported that peripheral? More below…!
Due to a communication mix up Login magazine reviewed the prototype, unfinished (& not great) Metal Soldier Isaac PCB in December 1984 saying it was out nationwide🤦♂️
The final game was still 6 months away. Taito changed the name so people knew it was different & Login apologised
@ohfivepro After a more thorough look at the code, I've figured them all out! Will update the article with info and maps after I finish an article for The Final Round. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with that video.
@ohfivepro Yeah...I found the BGM Flag when I was doing initial research but none of the other ones. Really need to either update the article or delete it entirely - created it 9 years ago when I didn't really know what I was doing disassembly-wise.
@SarahSSowertty There are a few other exceptions like Cadash, but that's because the game didn't have room for both the English and Japanese scripts. Warrior Blade has a similar religious edit but that's based on the region flag, even though (I think) the Japanese set was the only one released.
