The DNA polymerase Pol-kappa supports drug resistance in tumor cells, and diving into the molecular mechanisms of pain perception in this week’s issue of Science Signaling. https://t.co/jRHzBcXoay

Congrats to postdoc Kelsey Temprine (@GoneWithTheKels) on a new paper in @scisignal from her graduate work in the @whitefishlab at MSKCC.
Regulation of the error-prone DNA polymerase Polκ by oncogenic signaling and its contribution to drug resistance https://t.co/nDIUD8e9Iv
My final thought: this paper was a lesson in patience. An initial rejection actually, in the end, made the paper better. We learned the importance of not overselling the findings, and being realistic about what we did show. It took us longer to get there, but peer review worked.
I am super excited to finally be able to announce that the paper detailing my graduate work on how cancer cells can use the error-prone polymerase polK to adapt under stress has been published! Could not have asked for a better mentor than @whitefishlab for this work! 👩🔬
Cells under stress can adapt to deal with it. Our new paper, led by @GoneWithTheKels shows that inhibiting oncogenes like BRAF upregulates the error-prone DNA polymerase polK and help them deal with the stress. The lesson? Cancer is highly adaptable: https://t.co/sKZrbMOdf3
Doing a PhD is like putting 100,000 piece puzzle together without a box. And the pieces keep changing shape and colour. And the room is on fire. #phdlife#phdchat
