@RemoTony007@Acyn Oh, wow, brava, brava, bravissimo! The intrigue, the drama, the innuendo. We ask, with bated breath, "what will this person DO, when face-to-face with his greatest foe?" Please, enumerate, expound: what will you DO to protect the honor of the GOP from the mean and wicked news?
@JoeMiller4547@Acyn@SecWar@SecRubio Of course he knew what would happen to the price of oil if the Strait was closed. It literally takes the smallest of logical leaps, not a doctorate in global economics. And the fact that they've closed it now, is a feature for Trump et al, not a bug.
@JoeMiller4547@Acyn@SecWar@SecRubio Oh, so the Strait is closed due to them having nukes? And not in response to our aggression? Our aggression is in response to them having nukes, then? So they had nukes, then closed the Strait, THEN we attacked them? Is that the correct timeline, then?
@bhwizzy@Acyn 1.) that our sitting President "had a feeling," and it will end when the corresponding "feeling" to end it happens to strike his whimsy. And/or 2.) Israel, who has spent its existence using & manipulating the American people, wanted it, and by God, we're gonna give it to 'em.
@bhwizzy@Acyn And at least there was a REASON given there, although I don't think there's ever a GOOD reason. We've had a revolving door, a carousel, of "eh, shrug" reasons as to why we're there in the 1st place, but 2 given seem to really stick:
@bhwizzy@Acyn But, were those orders that were given during active combat? Were we actively involved in a campaign of ham-handedly blowing everything up, had we, for instance, chosen to target a girl's school on a school day? Yes, language should be chosen carefully. So should orders.
@aliceM_thorne@DemocraticWins Didn't you lot elect a child rapist and enthusiastic assaulter of women to the highest office in the land? I'm not saying that this dude, if he is a registered sex offender, should be elected to fuckin anything. I AM saying you set the precedent.
@FordJohnathan5@atrupar Oh that’s because to him and his ilk, the only people that are the American People are those on the right who plan on voting for Trump. Everyone else? Not American. 🤷🏻
Me, looking at skyscrapers in other cities: “what do they put in them if they’re not putting casinos and hotels in them?! They’re too fucking massive to not have casinos and hotels in them!” #VegasNative#Mood
What a journey it has been from 2016 to the peculiar cultural phenomenon that now unfolds at Trump rallies. Once upon a time, in the halcyon days of Chester County, the masses were beguiled by the novel roar of a man who wasn't cut from the usual political cloth. His raw, unpolished tirades against liberal protestors and his boisterous calls to "get 'em out of here" captivated an audience tired of the same old spin.
Fast forward eight years, and the scene has morphed into something quite extraordinary, almost Dickensian in its contrarian splendor. These rallies have become theatrical renditions of an Orwellian pantomime, where down is up, black is white, and the less reality adheres to their narrative, the more fervently they believe it. In this topsy-turvy extravaganza, an economy booming with the lowest unemployment rate in half a century is painted as the worst disaster since the Great Depression. Cities, enjoying a drop in crime, are depicted as dystopian war zones.
And the storming of the Capitol?
In this script, the real victim is Ashli Babbitt, her narrative overshadowed by the controversial identity of the officer involved, rather than the broader tragedy of the day.
It's a narrative twist that would make even George Orwell pause and mutter, "Well, I didn't mean it quite so literally." Here, the truth isn't just inconvenient—it's irrelevant.
Reality has become so elastic that it can be stretched to cover any contradiction, any inconsistency. The rally attendees, once possibly open to a discussion or two about the merits and demerits of such a leader, now seem to dwell within a self-reinforcing echo chamber, where each shout, cheer, and clap only serves to cement their shared delusions.
This shift from open curiosity to rigid dogma speaks volumes about the evolution of political discourse in the realm of Trump’s influence. What began as a curious flirtation with a brash outsider has solidified into a full-blown marriage to a narrative so potent, so detached from the threads of tangible reality, that to question it is to declare oneself an enemy of the people. It’s a study in how charisma, repeated often enough and loudly enough, can turn fiction into a fanatically defended fortress, impervious to the sieges of reason and reality.
Truly, if there ever was a testament to the power of storytelling—no matter how fantastical—it is the modern-day Trump rally, a place where the script is king and the facts are merely peasants, unworthy of the crown of attention.
Nate White, a British writer penned the best description of Donald Trump I’ve ever read:
“Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?”
A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.
Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.
Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.
There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.
And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down.
So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:
• Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.
• You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.
This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum.
God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump.
And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.”
@JustGaming2024 @SusanMcKendric3@gitfiddledude @FillyPhilonthez @krassenstein@Cerra__ Right. Imagine calling yourself a “patriot” while actively supporting Putin & Russia, pushing for fundamental rights for anyone who doesn’t think your way to be at best diminished, and voting for a party/candidate who wants to dismantle and destroy this DEMOCRATIC Republic. 😵💫
A twice impeached, one-term, sexual abuser & business fraud former so-called President charged 91 times in 4 different jurisdictions for everything from stealing our nuclear secrets to trying to overthrow our government is jetting around the country like he’s some goddamn melon-hued Messiah and frankly, it’s fucking insane.
WOW JUST IN: When asked about the Republican party's current position, Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) attributed it to years of negligence in Congress. In response to another reporter's query about the Democrats' success in passing extensive legislation despite having a similar majority, Gallagher acknowledged that the Democrats were effective and capable, crediting Nancy Pelosi's strong leadership with an iron fist.
This is NOT an "Insurrection"
The outrage by Marjorie Taylor Greene & others over a group of Jewish Americans peacefully protesting in the Cannon Rotunda for a "ceasefire" is nuts:
1) These people did not call for the hanging of political figures or assault Capitol police.
2) These people did not break into the building.
3) These people did not claim to want to interfere in a government proceeding.
4) These people did not have intent to overthrow the certification of a free and fair election.
5) There was no major violence reported.
6) These people did not destroy government property and threaten politicians.
7) These people were in fact arrested for protesting.
Stop the false outrage.
This gets even better for Democrats.
Governor JB Pritzker, who just launched a major organization to win in swing states, is ready to push his measures in other states.
In direct response to Ron DeSantis’ book banning in Florida, Illinois just signed a law that will make Illinois the FIRST state to END book bans!
Oh this is good.
Not only will it stop Illinois libraries across the states from banning books and other materials, but it will DISQUALIFY libraries from being eligible for state grants if they don’t comply.
“In Illinois, we don’t hide from the truth, we embrace it and lead with it,” Pritzker said. “Banning books is a devastating attempt to erase our history and the authentic stories of many.”
Efforts to curb reading materials are “about restricting the freedom of ideas that certain individuals disagree with,” Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said.
This is a huge win for FREEDOM and education!
Pritzker will promote these issues and convince voters that DEMOCRATS deliver.
Smash that 💙 if you want to see EVERY state prohibit the ban of books!
@4HumanUnity@RonFilipkowski Woke means black. Say it out loud in those town meetings, folks.
Don't let them do newspeak.
Isolate it, defuse it. Define it anew for them with a word they aren't used to.
A thesaurus comes is useful in a psyops war against the people. Gives fresh framing.
#ArrestMikeFlynn
@4HumanUnity@RonFilipkowski It irks me so much that term “woke” has become a target enemy for all the “patriots”.
“Florida: where woke goes to die!” WTF does that even mean?
The other racist phrase is “globalist”. I keep asking what they mean by that term, but never get an answer. I know what it means now.
@4HumanUnity@RonFilipkowski The opposite of woke being Darwinian, the colloquial use not the theory. Darwinian ppl are selfish, tribal, only seeking advantage for themselves and the inner group to the extend the inner group is advantageous. Everything becomes a zero-sum game. If you aren’t “winning” it…
