Doug Ford’s cuts resulted in #OntEd dumping children with complex needs into overcrowded regular classrooms with no additional staff or resources to keep them safe or help them learn.
Inclusion without support is abandonment.
The Ford government has abandoned our kids.
They spent $122 million of our money last year on tv commercials telling us how wonderful they are. Hamilton Health Sciences just cut 413 positions. The Conservatives are destroying our Province.
I've never understood why work-to-rule, which is literally just doing exactly what you're contracted to do, is considered a strike action. Seems to imply that an unspecified amount of free work is just expected. #OntEd
Start by renewing contracts with all 5 education unions, whose contracts expired Aug 31. They asked you to begin good-faith bargaining in March, but you dismissed those requests. Demoralizing and disrespecting staff will only further erode #onted. Stop playing political games!
A lot of people are missing the part where 70% of Ontario teachers are over 40 years old. Without pay and benefits that keep up with the rising cost of living, there will be a full blown teacher shortage crisis. Right now, no one wants the job. #onted#onpoli
The headline should be:
"Ontario Education Minister Fails To Negotiate Contracts With All Education Unions, Weeks After They Expired, With No Talks Planned".
#onted#onpoli
I can’t imagine that @PaulCalandra thought that teachers & education workers would do their homework
All the shiny ads, the smooth talking? All a crock.
Our money spent with Americans at inflated prices.
@OFLabour
Notebooks on Doug Ford's Staples portal: $2.51. Retail price: 79 cents. Exercise books teachers bought in June for $7.49: now $17. This gov't locked 80,000 teachers into one American-owned company. So much for Doug Ford’s tough talk. Cancel the deal. Let teachers buy local.
You must be kidding!
$750 for classroom supplies FOR THE YEAR : only for classroom teachers, only for elementary.
An avg (23 students) $32.50 per student!
All going to an 🇺🇸 store!
Parents know where the money came from @PaulCalandra - they aren’t stupid. #onted#onpoli
Imagine a government boasting that nurses will finally receive $750 to buy hospital supplies, or police officers an allowance for essential equipment.
It would be an admission of systemic failure.
But when it’s teachers, chronic underfunding gets rebranded as generosity #onted
Ontario schools have received $6.35 BILLION less since 2018 than if funding had kept pace with inflation. That’s not spin — that’s the province’s own numbers, adjusted for reality. $260 less per student this year alone. Teachers, you’re not imagining it. #OntEd
For everybody voting in the upcoming provincial by-elections remember the Premier of Ontario @fordnation changed a law to prevent his cell phone records being released when ordered to do so by the Ont Court of Appeal. I wonder why he did that?
@etfopresident said some aspects of the education system simply cannot be run centrally.
“If we want to run everything like a corporation, then yes, it would make sense. . . . But there needs to be space left for local variances,” he said.
“Even inside a single school, you could have two Grade 6 classrooms across the hall from each other where the teachers would engage with their students in very different ways, because their students are also different.” https://t.co/pt2sGK2oIX #onted #onpoli
Reminder: last time #onted teachers worked on an expired contract for 2 years. There was no job action, no strike.
This time, the contract expires in 1 month. @fordnation is stalling, refusing to negotiate
This isn't a coincidence, it's by design.
The disrespect is the point.
Literally every expert in addiction said this is exactly what would happen if Doug Ford got rid of safe consumption sites.
Doug Ford got rid of safe consumption sites anyway.
So, of course, the fault lies with... Olivia Chow???
66,000,000 ÷ 750= 88,000.
There are 145,000 teachers in Ontario. That means 57,000 teachers are getting $0. Not to mention education workers who also get $0.
This is a lovely initiative, but a gentle reminder that if @fordnation had not chosen to cut $1,500 per student ($3,000,000,000 total) since taking office in 2018, Ontario public schools would likely be able to purchase basic supplies for children and staff.
#CutsHurtKids#onted
Class sizes are based on an outdated system of lecture based instruction.
Schools lacking A.C. is based on outdated climate data.
School ventilation systems are based on outdated health standards.
I’d rather we start by making improvements where the students are. #OntEd
If only this statement ⤵️by the Minister were true!
FACT: Over the past seven years, under the Ford government's leadership, #onted funding has been cut by $6.35 billion. Ontario students have unmet learning needs and need increased supports. Our kids deserve better. #onpoli
