Vous connaissez déjà ma réponse, M. Bérubé : je ne quitterai jamais le Québec. Même si, un jour, les Québécois choisissent d’en faire un pays. Le Québec, c’est chez moi. C’est ma terre natale. Mon attachement ne dépend ni du résultat d’une élection ni de celui d’un référendum.

Cela dit, ne prenez pas les Québécois pour des valises.

Vous promettez un référendum dans un premier mandat, mais la menace de Donald Trump vous fait hésiter au point de vouloir le repousser à la toute fin. Vous reconnaissez donc la gravité de la crise. Pourtant, vous nous proposez de consacrer les quatre prochaines années à préparer une rupture avec le Canada.

Pendant ce temps, les Québécois attendent des soins. Nos écoles ont besoin de soutien. Nos infrastructures ont besoin d’investissements. Et notre économie a besoin d’un gouvernement qui travaille en étroite collaboration avec Ottawa pour traverser cette crise.

La véritable question, M. Bérubé, est donc celle-ci : prendrez-vous les meilleures décisions pour le Québec et les Québécois, ou les meilleures décisions pour préparer votre référendum et le gagner?

Parce que ce n’est pas nécessairement la même chose.

Gouverner exige du leadership. Cela exige aussi de mettre de côté la partisanerie et, lorsque les circonstances l’imposent, de faire passer l’intérêt des citoyens avant son rêve politique.

La menace, M. Bérubé, c’est Donald Trump. Ce n’est pas Ottawa. Le gouvernement du Canada ne cherche pas à écraser, à éclipser ou à faire disparaître le Québec. On peut avoir des désaccords avec Ottawa sans en faire un ennemi.

Alors, avec respect, cessez de me demander si je vais quitter le Québec si vous prenez le pouvoir. Moi, je sais où je serai : ici, chez moi.

Dites-nous plutôt ce que vous ferez du pouvoir : allez-vous gouverner le Québec à temps plein et travailler avec Ottawa, ou mettre l’État québécois au service de votre référendum?
