For all the hype telling us that Burnham is a great communicator, his recent interviews have left him looking brittle and shallow.
Am I alone in thinking that the more I see of him, the less impressive he appears?
@Liam_Holman99@PhilMyers53 The quality of candidate tells me Reform are happy to throw away this by-election, for two reasons.
A Burnham/Starmer fight hurts Labour in the medium term, and taking the GM mayor job is the short term goal.
Can't think who their big name Mayoral candidate might be though.
The constant banging on about DEI is an infuriating American import into the UK.
In the UK we call it EDI. And EDI training is essentially summed up like this:
‘Don’t be a knob to other people, and realise some people face barriers you don’t.’
It’s not some woke conspiracy.
This is the latest Ashcroft poll asking which of the following would make the best PM. (2/June/2026)
Starmer scores higher than everyone, including Burnham.
Ireland’s alleged “military neutrality” is a blatant lie.
In the first quarter of 2026, 83 percent of Ireland’s alumina exports went to Russia. This is not a “neutral” economic relationship; it is active complicity in a war of aggression against Ukraine.
The Irish government knows this full well. Investigations by The Irish Times, the OCCRP, and others have conclusively traced the supply chain all the way to Russian arms manufacturers.
Ireland—once a symbol of independence and moral clarity—has made itself Putin’s useful idiot.
While Ukrainian children die, the Irish elite counts profits and votes. This is not neutrality—it is cowardice, greed, and a betrayal of European values.
Yesterday @GBNEWS presenters @beverleyturner and @thecoastguy tweeted, variously, that the climate crisis was a hoax to introduce "the digital gulag", that NHS nurses helped to fake Covid and killed patients on govt orders. You're chained to these freaks. Accept the consequences.
@GordonFielden@JLPartnersPolls@TheSun It certainly smacks of an attempt to shape opinion rather than reflect it.
The only opinion that counts is voting members - and even then I'd suggest it's really difficult to model an accurate result from a sample.
@PippaCrerar Wasn't he reported, just a few days ago saying he didn't support PR but was supportive of AV?
There's either a lack of consistency in his pledges, or the news media are misreporting him.
@tomhfh I think this is one of those moments where it’s better to be kind, Tom. If you don’t know what is going on in someone’s life, it’s sometimes better to take what they say at face value and give them the time and space they need.
That would only be the case if people were focussing on current, relatively low, immigration stats.
As far as I can see, there is no let up in politicians and others blaming immigration for their problems.
And maybe it's more reflective of other areas (economy, NHS, etc) becoming lass salient.
Whatever it is, it doesn't necessarily read like government failure.
