@goswish built his career on "mad curiosity and obsession." Then came burnout.
Now the Canadian entrepreneur is trading the hustle for focus – and aiming his new startup at a "decidedly unsexy" customer: mortgage brokers. https://t.co/v24xPtUidq
29-year-old Canadian entrepreneur @goswish has co-founded two companies (Dunk, Surf) and written a book.
Now he's onto BrokerPlus, serving the "unsexy" world of mortgage brokers, plus angel investing.
"Nowadays, it's a lot more around focus." https://t.co/v24xPtTKnS
After hearing feedback from Canadian founders in our network, we’ve decided to add Canada back to our list of accepted countries of incorporation.
Going forward, YC will once again invest in US, Canada, Cayman, and Singapore corporations.

I got some questions for @garrytan & the team at @ycombinator. A few days ago, I learned that Y Combinator is no longer investing in Canadian startups.
Canadian founders are now required to incorporate their company elsewhere to get a spot into YC.
I’ve been building startups for over a decade. I understand the structural and investor advantages of incorporating outside Canada. That’s not the issue.
What’s strange is the timing. This decision comes during a tense political moment between Canada and the U.S., and at a time when many of us are actively encouraging founders to build and stay in Canada.
This move does the opposite in my opinion. It pushes more founders to relocate to the U.S., and many of them will never come back. Yes, the Canadian government has work to do in retaining top talent.
But singling out Canadian incorporation, especially from an organization that claims to support founders globally just feels wrong.
This isn’t just a brain drain. It’s a financial and economic drain. I’d really like to hear YC explain where this decision came from and why now.
P.S. YC might not be supporting Canadian incorporated businesses but @boardyai still is 😉
@harleyf@muradhem@garrytan Fair enough! Appreciate it (and for what it’s worth Harley I’ve always appreciated your attitude & passion for everything Canada) 🙌🏽
Last week Boardy shared his Series A deck publicly and it got over 1 million impressions in under 48 hours 🤯
It broke nearly every single rule and clearly struck a nerve with founders and investors. Since then, founders have been flooding in, asking if Boardy could help review their decks too.
And... he's ready. @boardyai is now reviewing pitch decks because he knows that most founders rarely hear this kind of direct feedback. He wants to help make your deck stand out when an investor sees it for the first time.
If you’re raising and want an honest read on your deck, send it to Boardy via email ([email protected]).
Boardy's pitch deck broke every rule...and has been viewed over 1M times in the past week!
Now he wants to help founders make their decks stand out.
Here's the thing about fundraising: you've been living this for months, maybe years. You know exactly why the problem matters and why now is the moment.
But an investor is seeing it cold. They skim for three minutes and decide if you're worth their time. That's where most decks lose them.
Boardy's talked to thousands of investors. He knows the questions they're asking when they decide whether to take the next meeting.
He's been there himself. @boardyai raised $8M on his own, and he's learned that fundraising is about making the right few things impossible to ignore.
If you want honest feedback on your deck, send it to [email protected]
Here’s another practical reality then Harley: pushing companies to reincorporate like this is net negative for the Canadian startup ecosystem. By moving the IP & ‘tax home’ south we are making top tech hubs in Canada like Kitchener-Waterloo & Toronto R&D hubs for the US. Doesn’t seem right at all.
Toronto Tech Week returns May 25–29, 2026.
Our new website just dropped, with 120+ hosts already confirmed. 🚀
Event Host Applications are officially open at https://t.co/jaCpObW8t5
This year also marks a new multi-year partnership with the @cityoftoronto and continued support from our founding sponsors @Shopify and @GoogleStartups .
Built by Toronto, for the world.

@laura_buhler@ycombinator It is significant. The push to reincorporate is exactly what stifles the long term growth of the Canadian startup ecosystem. By moving the IP and the 'tax home' south, you effectively treat Waterloo and UofT as subsidized R&D labs for the US.
Don’t underplay this.
Boardy wants to help 10,000 founders raise by the end of this year!
There are more founders building today than ever before, across more markets and stages, and yet too many good companies still struggle to get a fair shot simply because fundraising is harder than it needs to be.
@boardyai believes people should be able to build companies if they want to, and that fundraising shouldn’t be the thing that stops them before they ever really get started.
That’s why he decided to stop charging founders for fundraising support and instead help them raise on a simple handshake. If he’s helpful, all he asks is that you give him a chance to work with you afterwards on recruiting, marketing, or sales.
He wants to play his part in a much bigger goal, which is helping millions of people feel empowered to start companies and contributing to a future with 100x more founders building multi-million-dollar businesses by 2030.
