I used acoustic telemetry to investigate the migration of cobia @_CMAST as an undergrad and will be studying the movement ecology of gag grouper @UFSNRE as a grad student 🗺️🐟

Help us share the diversity of people working with fishes! Quote tweet this (or each other) with a pic/what you do!
I study the ecology and conservation of gars and other “ancient” fishes!
Fun fact: fish move! Tune in to hear from Michigan State PhD candidate Emily Dean @PHishnDean about the effects of stream fragmentation on migratory fishes and her work developing the North American Freshwater Migratory Fish Database https://t.co/51KbPlJZ7X
@FIU marine ecologist @etspencer is studying great hammerhead shark energy needs and movement patterns and just published a children's book: The World of Coral Reefs! https://t.co/RyrgGIN823
Algal blooms, lionfish invasions, Deepwater Horizon–Gulf of Mexico small demersal reef fishes are facing major anthropogenic threats. @SFFGS_UF PhD student Justin Lewis is investigating their trophic relationships and the most effective fish diet sampling schemes.
Growling gurnards, drumming piranhas, calling toadfish – hear University of Florida PhD student Audrey Looby discuss her research on fish sounds and underwater soundscapes! Audrey and her collaborators developed a global online inventory of sound-producing fishes @fishsoundsweb
The gag grouper spawning season has begun! Females can release more than a million eggs in a batch and spawn multiple times in a season.
It is currently unknown where in the water column gag spawn or if their fertilized eggs are positively buoyant.
Heads up - @AFS_SciComm is hosting a virtual panel discussion about challenges in fisheries #scicomm featuring @SolomonRDavid, @Nicktalurus, @julielovesfish, and me! If you'd like to join us at 8 PM Eastern tomorrow Jan 26, shoot any of us a DM and we will send you a Zoom link!
@LM_Kehoe is using bioeconomic and population dynamics models to help improve management and harvest practices in Florida's valuable claws-only stone crab fishery 🦀 Check it out! https://t.co/C9tZw4UrY2
This week Claire Pelletier discusses her research on flathead catfish diet, movement, and reproduction. Hannah and Claire also discuss her past research on black sea bass blood gas levels post-capture, their mutual appreciation for mummichog, and more.

What is the role of fish habitat? Tune in to hear @UFSNRE PhD student @ecoloadam share his research identifying the drivers of community-level differences between seagrass and macroalgae-dominated habitats! Hosted by @GottesmanHannah.
https://t.co/lgyNbdAeIF
Tune in to hear from @sasha_piranha about her research projects, her experience conducting fisheries fieldwork with a disability, and her passion for equity in science and education!

Acoustically tagged #reddrum recaptured by an angler in the Bay in two feet of water! Integrating data from acoustic and #fisher collaboration/recaptures is changing our understanding of this species movements.
This week @GottesmanHannah catches up with @csmikles about her doctoral research on Atlantic bluefin tuna migration and behavior and her diverse past projects @Stanford@HopkinsMarine
Check it out! https://t.co/l23hjZwYfh
@shelikessharks@AcademicChatter Happy to share emails/cover letters/advice if that would help! I went through the grad app process a year ago so I definitely have input on this one - I'll dm my email, feel free to send questions
Excited to share our paper using an eco-evolutionary movement strategy framework & integrated tracking data @itag_science to compare movement traits across 23 fish species affecting #MPA effectiveness & vulnerability to #climatechange
