Sequoiadendron giganteum, Killarney. Also known as Giant Sequoia or Sierra Redwood. Largest (not tallest) tree in the world. Appears that this tree succumbed to honey fungus about 10 years ago. It was taken down for safety reasons.

Diffuse porus end grain (sanded to 400 grit) in the tropical hardwood plank that washed up on #Rossbeigh beach. Pencil marks 10mm apart. Species not identified yet. There are a huge number of these woods but not that many that are significantly heavier than water.

A very lucky mouse. It was deep in a crack in this downed oak in Kenmare when the saw nicked its tail and drew blood. Another 20mm and it was all over!

A piece of the mystery Rossbeigh plank (see tweets below). Sinks immediately in seawater so quite a dense wood. Yellow in colour so possibly lignum vitae sapwood. End grain will be diagnostic so will polish and tweet an image.

Lovely oak which fell in a storm about 10 years ago at Derreen Garden @derreen2 in Lauragh. Sapwood totally decayed but heartwood perfect. Very straight tight grain. Began quartersawing today for local oak whisky casks for @Killarneydistil.

Moving a biggish Monterey Pine log for milling at Derreen Gardens, Lauragh. Some very nice boards came from this one. Now on to some oak.

150mm sawing capacity with the circular blade. Towards camera horizontal as in video. Then turn to vertical sawing on way back. Can also swap blade for an 1800mm chainsaw bar for slabbing.
