Tamil Nadu waited.

Monday came.

The answers didn’t.

The LoP had placed specific numbers before the Chief Minister:

200 murders.
300+ sexual crimes.
8 custodial/prison deaths.
10 honour killings.

It raised specific cases, specific allegations against ruling-party functionaries, police excesses and questions about the government’s handling of dissent.

What was expected from the CM?

Dispute the numbers if they are wrong.
Explain them if they are right.
Tell us who was arrested.
Tell us what action was taken.
Tell us what failed.
Tell us what is being fixed.

Instead, Vijay’s principal defence was that individual crimes should not be confused with the overall law-and-order situation.

But wasn't it the allegation you made during the last regimen? Did he not blame the DMK then? Why did he escape today?

What we saw today was nothing but evasion dressed up as aggression.

What followed then was mere 'Political rhetoric.'

Someone please remind Vijay that he isn't the LoP but the CM of the State and The Police Department reports to him.The Home Department is his responsibility.

The Assembly is being used as a political rally and to produce viral clips and journos are busy counting viewership.

But in an Assembly reply, the scoreboard is not viewershipand aggression. It is answers. Answers for the people.

Tamil Nadu needed answers that would make people especially women feel safe. Vijay chose rhetoric over accountability because answering honestly would mean admitting the disorder on the ground.

So the crisis was buried under political theatre.

Tamil Nadu was promised a reply.

What it got was a diversion!

There appears to be a serious misunderstanding of parliamentary etiquette in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by Hon'ble HR&CE Minister @RameshOffcl.

The Chief Minister @CMOTamilnadu is the head of the Government, the foremost among the Ministers, and the Leader of the State, but not supreme within the Assembly. The Chair, Hon'ble Speaker, holds the supreme authority in the House. Members only rise to show respect to the Chair and in circumstances specifically prescribed by parliamentary convention - not merely because a Minister or the Chief Minister walks in.

Even in Parliament, there is no general convention of Members standing up to greet the Hon'ble Prime Minister every time he enters the House.

Therefore, instead of lecturing the Leader of the Opposition @Udhaystalin on whether he stood up for the Chief Minister, the Hon’ble HR&CE Minister @RameshOffcl should first learn the basic rules, conventions, and etiquette of the great House.

What makes this even more astonishing is that the Government itself organised a two-day orientation and training programme for MLAs on June 16 and 17 at Kalaivanar Arangam, specifically to familiarise members with Assembly procedures, rules, parliamentary conventions, and House conduct such as these.

It seems the Hon’ble Minister may not have attended the programme or somehow missed the most basic lesson: the Legislative Assembly is not a Government office where elected representatives are expected to stand and salute the Chief Minister.

The Legislative Assembly is an institution of democracy - not a place for personal loyalty displays to the Chief Minister. Learn the rules first. Then lecture others.
Be that as it may, the ruling of Hon'ble Speaker @JCDPrabhakar puts an end to Ministers' solicited respect for the Hon'ble Chief Minister inside the Assembly.
