I built an appearance consultation platform thinking confidence was about colors, body shapes, and finding what suits you.
Turns out, it's also about the invisible rules we've inherited.
"Don't wear black after marriage."
"That's too bold."
"Dress your age."
On Saturday, I brought together a room full of women to talk about the rules we've lived by—and the ones we're finally ready to leave behind.
The conversations were raw, funny, uncomfortable, and incredibly liberating.
Here's to questioning more rules, wearing what we love, and creating more spaces where women can simply be themselves. 💛
I started speaking to women as part of my user research for Papion.
What began as conversations about appearance gradually revealed something much deeper.
Women don't really have spaces to talk about appearance, confidence, body image and self-expression without feeling judged.
So instead of just building a product, I wanted to experiment with building a community.
Yesterday, together with @GoyalKhusbu , we hosted the first edition of The Mirror Conversations, on @OfflynLife.
An evening of conversations, reflection and art.
What stayed with me wasn't any single story.
It was how many different directions the conversation took.
We spoke about changing the way we dress to be taken seriously at work.
About childhood comments that continue to shape us decades later.
About reaching for the safest outfit before an important meeting.
About trying to reconnect with versions of ourselves we feel we've lost.
About the tension between wanting to be seen as competent and wanting to express our femininity.
It reaffirmed something I've believed for a long time.
Appearance is rarely the destination.
It's often the doorway into conversations about confidence, identity, belonging and self-expression.
I think we're only scratching the surface.
This is just the beginning of The Mirror Conversations.
Stay tuned for the next edition !

I feel v sad to hear the passing away of Padma Shri Dr Sindhutai Sapkal ji. Her undying compassion and commitment towards orphaned children set a benchmark in selfless service to humanity. May God give strength to her children and followers to bear this great loss. Om Shanti
