People, I have discovered, are layers and layers of secrets. You believe you know them, that you understand them, but their motives are always hidden from you, buried in their own hearts. You will never know them.
Veronica Roth
Come the morning. The day that cuts like a knife. Segmenting the cake. The slices of of our lives. Choose yours. Or choose not to take a piece at all. Because there is no taste to a cake once that moment has past. And you will have missed the sweetness that was to be #yours.
Hiding your hurt only intensifies it. Problems grow in the dark and only become bigger and bigger, but when exposed to the light of truth, they shrink. You are only as sick as your secrets. So take off your mask, stop pretending you’re perfect, and walk into freedom.
Rick Warren
Fragile Tiger
I am her, bound by jungle rare
Oppose foes with loudest roar.
Chameleon-like, shape-shifting
In the forest drifting.
Flick of striped tail
Lick of giant paw.
A smile that beams
Across my jaws #Loveher
Chameleon Soul
Like a Beat in the rain
Drunk on rot-gut
Moonshine. Dead as a Dodo
Can't get up again.
Lost in crowds on Fifth Avenue
Strolling among gallions
Of the dead. Chameleons
Guardians of the #Soul
Mexican Railroad
I mumble at my bones
"Sixty four thousand
Nine hundred
And twenty eight"
Is all I have left in this world.
In the cold ditch
Beside the sleepers
Here I #founder
-For Neal Cassady
LEFT
Wail. An #unhinged door of a sob. Crashing outward. An exploding plea. The escaping torturous dying of a soul. Left to go quiet. To the hitching drip of hot black tar. Blotting out her face.
Old Man River
I found old man river at the edge
Of love. I watched him snake,
Curl along the valley's edge
Banking at my shore.
I thought I had #Lost him for a time
In the canyons, amidst the desert Wild, bones & broken horns.
LOSS
Loss has a face
It is you.
It works its way back in
Like a thief.
Brings me pictures of the sea
Shells & cups of tea.
Loss is a battleship
Listing & on fire
Pulls me down to the coral
Like a #pearl
I communed with a cow. She kissed me. I looked deep into the wetness of her eyes and spoke to her. She knew her fate. Understood the walls of her prison. I didn’t know what to say. I #kissed her and walked away. The beast that I am, on towards my slaughter. And the cow laughed.
The Garden Through the Window
Robins used to search for crumbs
On the sill, not noticing me watching,
Big blackbirds sit & stare & glare, now they know I'm there, they're not scared, not like me, they're free to roam the sky, To glide through the blue #unaware
Hit me with a stump in the small of my back. That bone snapping crack. #Sever my spine. Ruin my venture so that i might freeze where I drop. No more. No more. Cripple me here. And just #leave. Leave me to learn. The hard way.
Black sheep. I earned my mantle. This nigger fleece. Cast out by my own hand. Separate from them. My path beautifully beleaguered. Besieged with temptation. Filth snagging on every strand. I am lost. I hear their call. It serves to drive me deeper. The #forest folds.
Carrion. Soft-bellied pickings for vultures and jackals. Unpalatable to all but the scavenging beast. And this is how you find me. The meat of me gone. Heartless. Thoughtless. Soulless. Miles from the fading #mirage of an oasis that brought me here and reduced me to a dying crawl
I shall end before you. See a dripping tap fill a bucket with a hole in it. Yet you still expect to drink from the dream of its bounty. I beg you wake. The coffee is spoiled. Breakfast is #verdigris with mould. Supper is late. We shall starve. There will be no waking tomorrow.
If you should spy this empty vessel. Do not prod. Or widen my eyes for any sign of earthly measure. I am on some other journey and simply just forgot how to breathe. You can pass by should you wish. I ask nothing more from you. Take back your years. #Waiting is a fool’s errand.
the tendermost thrills
trembling my depths as my
hummingbird heart unfolds
when he writes me, his rose,
in the richest of reds
and blushes all of my golds
how gently he crows for
my needs, and kneads
in his palms, I melt and I mold
