I think half a billion is a fair guess for the number of vertebrates that have died in Australian wildfires so far - birds may be able to fly, but territorial individuals will die. Animals that emerge from burrows will find little food. https://t.co/TmHQakjE24
The true extent of the damage to Australia’s unique biodiversity is not yet known.
Some estimates are that 500 million+ native animals may have perished. We're working to support various organisations to help save endangered wildlife affected by these fires.

This is Mt Nardi, Nightcap NP. Numerous short-range endemics including my #dungbeetles are only found here in this Gondwanan rainforest. Much of their habitat was lost in the Dec fires but some survived thanks to @NSWRFS and the Community Defenders. Photo: Felix Schafer-Gardiner
We still don't know what impact the most recent fire in core #westerngroundparrot habitat has had on the last wild population but with a pre-fire population of less than 150 the situation is critical. The surviving birds need to be found and protected. #AustraliaBurning
So much work has gone into managing this species by many passionate people including so many landholders and volunteers over decades- please consider supporting the endemic KI glossy blacks through this extremely difficult time post the KI mega fire
These dunnarts are one of a kind,
They’re one of the hardest to find,
But because of the fire,
Their futures now dire,
A disaster for all Dunnart-kind 😔 #KIdunnart

Last week, Waleed travelled to Christchurch and sat down with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to find out how she and her country have been coping through its darkest days... #TheProjectTV
@howlingdingo @InvasionEcology @BioR_Aus This isn't the fence we will build, just an example pic! We're building a 1.65-1.8m fence with two plain wires above the prefab - it should be pretty safe!
This is such an exciting project to be working on! I'm learning new #predator-proof #fencing skills which go hand-in-hand with an #ecology#phd, right? 😉🌱 @BioR_Aus
Extremely excited to launch our project to build a you-beaut #kangarooproof#fence at Monarto - 5km long, it will protect 135 ha of precious #seedlings (and future #habitat) from hungry #roos 🌱🌱. All made possible by the Klein Family Foundation and @AusLandcare, THANKYOU! 🙏
Nice one @D0CT0R_Dave! 👏 perfectly-written. What a disgrace that #brumbies are now "protected" in NSW #parks, and an even bigger disgrace when our #politicians don't listen to sound #science - feral horses damage our #native#ecosystems. https://t.co/2Hvf6dhC4d
