This is a reminder that your advisor doesn’t have to/ shouldn’t be the only person who you go to for help and advice. You need a team of people who provide social, emotional, professional, etc. support and meet multiple needs! It takes a village not a person.

3) Ask peers for support! Sometimes it feels easier to go with a friend for help on a paper or to study together. Building a strong support system can make getting your degree easier. Asking peers at different levels of the program can also provide you with helpful insights.

Three ways you can ask for help. 1) Ask for extensions! Life happens and sometimes you need extra time. It doesn’t have any negative representation over you and your work ethic. You also don’t need to share details of your situation unless you’re comfortable.

2) Visit office hours! Whether it’s with your professor or TA, it’s important to show up because this does make an impact on your class engagement! Ask questions about the assignments or go over the material. This can be the start of a good relationship for future references.
