This isn't particular to a question, but I was fortunate enough to participate in a Global Competencies book club this year that was about TALK. It was the best thing we could have done for my students reading. They were presented with 6 books and got to choose... #shelfietalk
@KatiePrescott18@ShelfieTalk It's so important to teach this to our kiddos. As readers, we abandon the books that we don't care for and I think that's something that they need to know.
A8 Thank you, Anne and Mary. You have deepened my thinking about what it means to be a reader and how to engage my students, starting with my love of reading. Thank you! #shelfietalk
A7 I'm also planning to do a bulletin board with what I'm currently reading and wouldn't have previously considered it being novels/books that my students would/could also be reading. #shelfietalk
(continued) book they wanted. The increase in student engagement, because they had a choice and they got to share their book with their peers, was AMAZING! No comprehension assignments, just a shared love of something I had read. They actually wouldn't stop reading. #shelfietalk
A5 - I've already started setting up my classroom and I've decided to place books throughout to make it feel that the whole classroom is a space for reading. #shelfietalk
A6 - I make sure to have a designated time for reading, I want my students to know it's an important part of our day. I also do read-aloud books every single day and both and my students and I have absolutely loved it. It's amazing to see them get lost in a book. #shelfietalk
A6: For my high school students, I think respecting that reading in class does not need to have an assignment attached to it so that they can work on their own personal reading goals will hopefully nourish their want to read daily. #shelfietalk
This book really resonated with me. If you had asked me as a high school student if I was a reader, I probably would have said no. I grew up with a love for reading and was a proficient reader, but high school really killed that for me. #shelfietalk
A3 - I teach Intensive French, but I plan to have conferences with my students to find out what they like, what is important to them and how I can incorporate that into my teaching and into their learning. #shelfietalk
A4 - There's actually a teacher I've been following on Instagram for a while and I've been admiring her board and I just started setting up a place where I can implement something like this. #shelfietalk
