@dwidmaier Engineering works best where things are static/ stable on their own, and are only dynamic after the engineering is applied, and usually where the physics at only one or two scales matter
Biology is already dynamic, and often at multiple scales

Keep in mind that watts are a rate of energy use, whereas Joules, kWรhr, kcal are cumulative energy use.
(Flaw in your original post is the watts/hour - watts are already a time-rate unit)
