In 2017, Corbyn came within a few thousand votes of being Prime Minister. He was promising to renationalise rail, energy and water, end austerity, invest in the NHS and build 100,000 council homes a year.
Nine years later, the NHS is in crisis, rail is being slowly renationalised anyway, energy bills have hit record highs and the housing crisis is worse than ever.
Was he ahead of his time?
@MagicPuddingDi@BevJacksonAuth That's the great thing about university, you can do that and I had similar memories and experiences from my own university days. The only time I remember it getting nasty (and in fact coming to blows) was in a discussion about abortion.
@MerriamWebster Generally words which have different spellings between British and American English, such as "manoeuvre". I end up inventing a spelling that isn't either of them.
@juliasuzanne76 You may not know that that Hannah wasn't the first person to raise this issue; Ken Livingstone did it as well when he first became an MP in the late 1980s, and with much the same result.
@JuliaSuzanne76 Sorry you've been given such grief over your comments concerning drinking in Parliament.
I didn't read the whole thing but unlike most of us you're in a position to actually know what you're talking about.
@DrHoenderkamp Hi Renee,
Of course. The problem some of us have is with what was originally meant to be a Saturday morning "fun run" turning into a serious race with timed runs in the first place.
@janecoaston "...most people cannot run a ten minute mile."
Hi Jane,
I could when I was younger (my best time for the 1500m at school was 5m 44 sec) but not now. And I'm well aware that that wouldn't take me anywhere near even a three hour marathon.
@jgault13 Yes but you could argue that if he hadn't been chasing the man who won it so hard, he wouldn't have also gotten under 2 minutes himself (and he's two years younger so still has time to improve).
Hannah Spencer: "Someone shat on the floor."
Every single Labour MP: "What's wrong with shitting on the floor? Some times we work long hours. We are perfectly within our rights to shit on the floor."
@HCH_Hill@malcolm_reavell You've just made a tacit admission that a significant proportion of our MPs are half cut when they're either deciding or voting upon legislation which by its very nature affects the lives of millions of people.
If that doesn't worry you, I think it should.
@HCH_Hill@malcolm_reavell It's always "holier-than-thou" when it's someone else's scruples though, isn't it? Not singling you out here, it's universal amongst the commentariat.
