This project was initiated in the late 1920s by Marjory Allen and Richard Sudell, partners with Ada Salter in the London (later National) Gardens Guild. See 'Behind the Privet Hedge' (2024) by Michael Gilson.

@coyleneil It’s nothing to do with being a Green. It’s to do with civilised language and with congratulating a political opponent elected leader on their success.
My friend, Eleanor, is taking her music out to Somerset this summer. If anyone is near Somerset, be sure not to miss her. The music will be great. Guaranteed.
These two lovely looking festivals are being put together by Eleanor of @TunedInLDN. She’s taking elements of our #Rotherhithe-based music programme to an idyllic valley in Somerset. Fancy a camping weekend?!
Friday15 May is International Conscientious Objectors Day.
A ceremony will be held in Tavistock Square in London 1.-2pm. Conscientious objection is not cowardice. Many of us who have had COs in our families will know that refusing to kill may exact a heavy price.
@beatrixcampbell There is a historic shift but it is away from ‘British politics’. The future is globalism v nationalism, the planet v exploitation and poor countries v rich.

This Easter, we remember:
Israel obliterated the mausoleum of Simon Peter, the Apostle of Christ, in Shama, southern Lebanon.
A sacred site that stood for over 2,000 years, now in ruins.
This is a war crime.
This is a crime against history.
@Livingstone_RJ@johnrobb77 Others would also have missed the irony, so it had to be corrected, I’m afraid. But imagine what an entrepreneur could do with Buckingham Palace - the Prince Andrew Room, the Diana Room, the Edward VIII-Adolf Hitler Room…
@johnrobb77 They would certainly become top tourist attractions if the monarchy was abolished. They could open far longer hours and contain beautiful items of historical interest.
@Livingstone_RJ@johnrobb77 What?! Versailles Palace is one of France’s top destinations, getting as many as 10 million visitors per year, and it certainly gets more visitors since France became a republic.
