We are not running courses this year but you can come and stay in our new self-catering cottage. There are some lovely places to explore in the surrounding north Shropshire countryside.

'It is a Turkish-kind of drink made of water and some berry or Turkish-beane... It is somewhat hot and unpleasant... and caused breaking of wind in abundance'. The London-based intelligencer Samuel Hartlib describes a new drink called coffee in 1654. Hartlib Papers, 29/4/29B. ☕️
This illustration, "The Hand that Keeps the World Informed," is from the 1923 Manual of Linotype Typography (subtitled: Prepared to aid Users and Producers of Printing in securing Greater Unity and Real Beauty in the Printed Page).

Nuns were obviously dedicated to their work. Interesting to think that a prioress, Dame Juliana Berners, was reputed to be one of our first technical writers - providing 'The Treatise of Fishing with an Angle' for Wynkyn de Worde's 1496 publication 'The Book of St Albans'.
In 1476, nuns were working as printers at Florence's Convent of San Jacopo di Ripoli. Records indicate that the convent’s typesetting was done by Suor (Sister) Marietta.

A lovely photo of a late pre-clocks-going-back dawn. It's cold outside but warm as toast in both the bindery and the lounge (especially when the fire's on).
A beautiful drop back box - another one made at Glenn Malkin's #bookbinding course here last weekend. Thanks again for photos @DerrySketcher . https://t.co/k0zX4mhC82
