Many high school admin think the same. Someone who has been a Head Coach is a "safe hire."
When I consult schools on their process, I always say to start with someone who has been a Coordinator at minimum.
I think it's foolish to hire a Head Coach who hasn't proven themselves as a Coordinator at least.
