Trump is dismantling almost every "check" on his actions. In his first month in office, he
1) Fired 18 inspector generals and many Justice Department attorneys
2) Effectively takes over the "power of the purse" from Congress by dismantling agencies and halting programs
3) DOGE now has access to the government's most sensitive data that political appointees typically do NOT have access to.
4) Last night -->He went after key independent agencies. He is now requiring the FTC, FCC, SEC and even the Fed to submit draft regulations to the White House for review. [Note this only applies to the Fed's bank regulations, not to monetary policy]
Yes, there will be big court battles over all of this. But it's a huge test of US institutions. Can they withstand this? Will the US still be seen as a country with trusted and stable rule of law?
