@wherearemylimbs I mean it makes sense. As humans we probably are a lot more passionate about justice and vengeance than rewarding good people. #ch1002#divc0m
@PriessNicolina I thought they were really nice to read. It was very self reflective compared to reading about over-exaggerated battles. #ch1002#divc0m
Paradiso 11 talks about all the things a person can get caught up with in their life. Crazy how some things don’t change over hundreds and thousands of years. #ch1002#divc0m
I’m really digging these self-reflective texts: “not speak; for nearing its desired end, our intellect sinks into an abyss so deep that our memory fails to follow it” (Paradiso c1). #ch1002#divc0m
@erniepike0990 It’s all an intricate metaphor for life and the fears and regrets we have in it, right? At least that’s what I gleaned from it. #ch1002#divc0m
Vast change in pace, this one’s a lot more about large metaphorical encounters like in c. 13. ”...how the soul is bound into these knots;
and tell us, if you can, if any one
can ever find his freedom from these limbs.” #ch1002#divc0m
The mighty spirits in c 4 alludes to all the stories we’ve read and other famous figs. “I saw Electra with companions many, ‘Mongst whom I knew both Hector and Aenas, Caesar in armour with gerfalcon eyes;” as well as King Latinus, Saladin, Socrates, and Plato. #divc0m#ch1002
@erniepike0990 I think it was just the thing to do to add in supernatural things. I’ve been wondering if everyone believed it, or if it’s an ancient inside joke. #ch1002#mrcopolo
I read that some Chinese linguists say that some of his vocabulary was Persian rather than Chinese. and it seems like he doesn’t mention some very obvious Chinese traits. This makes them believe that he only made it as far as Persia. #ch1002#mcropolo
@KarrinJohnson99 I think it was to show your own people that your religion or your culture is “pure” when compared to others. That much was pretty bad in Mandeveille’s. #ch1002#mrcopolo
It’s significantly more believable that he went on these journeys. There is, of course, the expected religious and cultural exaggerations, but nothing too close to Mandeveille’s. #ch1002#mrcopolo
