AI art seems to only be impressive to programmers. That's a lot like me looking at your lines of code and saying it must be good because the paragraphs make neat shapes.

I use AI to do mind-numbing tasks, it's great at making low rent thumbnails for Youtube and humorous images for memes. It can write scripts that might impress a 3rd grader, making it more useful than most of what's being produced in Hollywood today, but it's not going to decide to write its own Moby Dick any time soon.

My beef with AI isn't that it's a useful tool, it's that audiences are trained to accept low skill, ugly art by submersion. The 9 old men set out principles of animation that were broken or ignored by The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy and Southpark. The audience was trained to value densely written dialogue with few animation principles executed on screen. Fine. But don't complain when 30 years later everything is really, really ugly.

30 years of mixing beats and hip hop and we create fewer people who could write classical music for an audience that loses its taste for it.

We will always need great chefs though they will never serve as many billions of people as McDonald's. AI will allow art illiterate people to make illiterate art for an illiterate audience. We get to consume more media than ever, with thousands of movies we get to scroll through on Netflix though most we all agree are unwatchable, even by the lowest standards of cinema.

I'm not going to properly wrap up this post with a structured, utilitarian summary so you know it wasn't written by AI.
