After his appearance on the Herald Now program last Thursday, ex Ardern Broadcasting Minister Willie Jackson could well have opened the newspaper to a defamation law suit.

Jackson called NZ blogger and podcaster Cameron Slater a "nutjob" and "the most poisonous person we have ever seen on air".

Ironically, this was during a discussion about the Broadcasting Standards Authority wanting to expand it jurisdiction to online publishers.

Jackson yesterday said he was right behind this move as people like Mr Slater needed to be "controlled".

As a radio talkback host Willie was himself kicked off air for comments relating to a rape case.
