Finished the Networking Basics course on @CiscoNetAcad today and took the final exam.
At question 43/50, my internet dropped. After reconnecting, my laptop warned me the battery was critically low; but I stayed focused and finished.
Scored 72%.
Also learned how to:
• Write captures to a .pcapng file
• Use a ring buffer • Customize the Wireshark toolbar
I made a few mistakes, but understanding why a command works is more valuable to me than simply memorizing it.
A random Wireshark post turned into today's learning session.
I explored dumpcap and discovered that Wireshark uses it internally for packet capture, while Wireshark provides the GUI for analysis.
Today's lesson from OverTheWire Bandit:
Level 13 had me troubleshooting scp for quite a while before I realized my mistake...
I used -p instead of -P to specify the port. 😅
One small character can make all the difference.
Spent some time exploring Wireshark filters today, here is what I learned 👇
1. Apply as Filter: Instantly filters the packet list to show only what you're interested in.
2. Conversation Filter: Display all packets exchange between two endpoints, making it easier to follow the conversation.
3.Prepare as Filter: places the filter in the filter bar without applying it, so you can edit before pressing Enter.

• Repeatedly decompress until reaching the plain text
I made a few mistakes and I also learned more. Every challenge is sharpening my troubleshooting skills.

I reviewed my notes today to reinforce what I've learned so far, then restarted the OverTheWire Bandit wargame.
Level 12 definitely put my Linux skills to the test:
• Create a temp directory
• Convert hex → binary
• Identify file types
@ArtemPolynko Need a little help from the cyber community. 🙏
My | (pipe) key outputs ~ in Linux (Kali VM). I've tried a few fixes I found online, but it's still not working.
Has anyone run into this before?

Python is next on my roadmap, but first I'm strengthening my Linux fundamentals with Bandit (OverTheWire).
Spent most of the day stuck on Level 8... not because of Linux, but because my | (pipe) key kept outputting ~. 😅
Every obstacle is part of the learning process
Today's focus wasn't a course; it was career planning.
I reviewed job postings for SOC Analyst, Security Analyst, and Incident Response roles to compare the required skills with what I've learned so far.

Continued building my Wireshark skills today using a PCAP file from Malware Traffic Analysis.
Explored IP geolocation, parsed User-Agent strings, and used network traffic to gather context about activity.
@CiscoNetAcad Being part of this milestone is motivating. The hands-on labs and learning resources have been invaluable in building my networking foundation. Congratulations on reaching 1 million learners in Nigeria 🎉 👏
