So he wanted Farmaajo to behave like Hassan Sheikh Mohamud?

He now regrets going to court and seeking justice over his parliamentary seat, and considers Farmaajo’s non-interference “betrayal”?

He also says he regrets rejecting a ministerial position offered by Hassan Sheikh, even though in another interview he claimed he rejected it because he disagreed with Hassan Sheikh’s political philosophy.

On top of that, he walked back some of his old positions, such as his belief that intelligence chiefs should stay away from the media and preserve the dignity of the office, not to mention some of the obvious falsehoods he pushed during the interview.

The man spent years presenting himself as someone of principles, only to come out sounding bitter, contradictory, and politically opportunistic.

These were the fathers of Somali independence!

A group of 13 young Somalis, most of them in their twenties, founded the Somali Youth League (SYL) on May 15, 1943, in Mogadishu.

The purpose of the organization was:
• It began as a small youth club known as the Somali Youth Club.
• It quickly evolved into the strongest Somali nationalist movement.
• Its slogan was Somali unity, the unification of all Somali territories into one state, and independence from Italian and British colonial rule.

Their historical role:
• They led major popular campaigns against colonialism.
• They played a central role in Somalia’s independence in 1960.
• They became national symbols, and May 15 is celebrated as Somali Youth Day in their memory.

It is also a reminder to Somali youth today that those young men had less education, fewer resources, and no modern technology, yet they laid the foundation of modern Somalia.

If the SYL generation achieved that under those conditions, then today’s Somali youth can also continue their mission.

My condolences to the families of the fallen victims of outgoing president Hassan Sheikhs violence against lawful protesters today. He can't extend his tenure past May 15, 2026, by the gun and arresting journalists. Somali security forces must protect the people, not hurt them.
